    Hard acceleration in manual mode

Has anyone experienced automatic down gearing when planting your foot down on the accelerator in manual mode? I was driving home tonight on the freeway and for whatever reason I thought lets see if this car still has some balls in 7th gear, so literally I put my foot down but noticed there's a little notch in the acceleration pedal which when pushed even harder throws the car down a few gears.

So driving at 80kms and slammin the pedal down (all the way) I found myself instantly in 3rd gear doing 105kms within 3 secs. Anyone got any idea what this feature is, or it's normal and has anyone noticed it? Quick over taking or something?

It's normal, the gearbox will also change gear in manual mode when it hits redline to protect itself and the engine.
You will never have full control of the box

It will work in drive mode as well. Thought I had broke the pedel when I heard it click but it just droped to third and took off.

Just don't push the button at the end, it's a kickdown switch designed to give you as much POWWWAAAA as possible in any situation.

Yeah seems like a good feature but having said that yeah you never get full control...which is annoying. I was saying to my mate the other day there should be a 6 gear shift mimicking an actual 6 shift gearbox, just with no clutch, rather then the standard up and down shifting.

You control how far down on the pedal you push... it's pretty easy not to push the button. Otherwise get a sprint booster and you'll never have to push that far down on the pedal again. I would be more annoyed if the car hit a rev limiter or laboured and stalled instead of doing something about it.

I wonder when people will finally realise that the DSG is an automatic... If you want full control then buy a manual car.

As soon as manual drivers admit thay just get a manual so they can blame the box or clutch for there poor poformance instead of blaming there lack of skills....

LOL... not quite the same argument though.

I like manuals because they are usually 2000-2500 cheaper than an auto
They also demand less ongoing maintenance (usually).

This is true and in really the gearbox is somewhat of a manual gearbox it just operates as an automatic. The DSG is very complex and once you master it it can be just as exciting as a manual car. The reality of it is when someone asks me if I drive a manual or auto I say I drive a DSG or tiptronic.
