GTI Steeringwheel with DSG Paddles (Can they be 'blanked' out ?)

    Hi all,

I bought a GTI steering wheel for my comfortline with the understanding that its from a NON-DSG car so of course when it arrives its from a DSG car. Does anyone know if VW make any way to delete the paddles with a blanking plug or similar? I have removed them which is easy enough but i am looking for a way to 'plug' the now present hole.

If I cannot find some way around it, I will probably either try and send it back (always a hit and miss affair when it comes to wreckers ) or sell it on ebay and try and recoup some money which would be a real shame.

    Cheers,
    Aaron

If you're in need of any 6n1 parts, odds are that I am going to have them (dismantling 2 at the moment)

Ahhh okay, that would probably explain it , so there will be little chance of getting one without the paddles i suspect unless I want to pay 650 euro and get one from car-systems or similar

The only way you could get what you want to have working is if you also buy the wheel off a Mk6 Golf GTI that is for a manual version, then see if it bolts on. From memory, I think it should....

Have a look in the stickies and there is a link to ETKA which is the online parts data base for VW. You can check the part numbers between the dsg equipped golf GTI and the polo GTI. If they are the same, suffice to say that the golf GTI manual wheel without paddles would bolt straight up.

Hi Gavs... Good point.. I have ETKA and looked it up. 5k0 419 091 AE is common between the Golf and Polo.

If I try it and really dont like it (the wheel is mint mind you), Is it an upgrade that people like to do? I.E would there be a market to sell it you think?

Yeah but the BCM needs recoding and you would need to supply the steering sender to whoever bought it if the wheel didn't have it.

Not sure what a steering sender is but it has the steering wheel control unit in it and the steering wheel loom that is behind the airbag which connects to the actual paddles
