Correct on 3. It'll complain about the unit missing and lock out the BT completely (Non-Polo owners don't realize it comes with the Bury System 9 cradle as standard.). There's a bunch of people with VCDS cables, including me and I'm the one who figured that code too ;)

Sweet at least that's solid information so I know what I'm going to have to do. There is a euro tuning shop local to me I may have to give them a buzz and see if they know how to do it.

In all honesty, if you have been running an engine for 3-4 days (or even 10 hours) with foreign body contamination and it has not been trapped by the filter, changing the oil is going to do very little. Whatever damage the foreign bodies were going to do have already been done. After all, the only part of the engine that would be exposed to any foreign material is the oil pump, and it will have been churning through the stuff for 3-4 days anyway. Hopefully it will have delivered the bodies to the filter where they will have become trapped and rendered harmless and would not be revealed when the oil was dropped.

If it gives you some peace of mind, then by all means change it. It is unlikely it would make any difference at all.

Na. Just my initials backwards :-) Don't worry, I was once contacted by Golden Pages (the Chinese equivalent of Yellow Pages in Sydney) who were very disappointed I was not Chinese and so would not include a listing for me. I also used to resell computer hardware (essentially for clients I used to do setups for) and get the products from a wholesaler. I did that for years until I had to call in to chase up the delivery of my last order (a few thousand dollars worth). When the wholesaler discovered I was not Chinese, he cancelled the order and said he only dealt with Chinese resellers. I had to find another wholesaler.

That's some funny **** to be honest. Love my computers just built a new computer about 6 months ago. Went to Hong Kong to get all the parts whilst on holiday

The second he found out you were not Chinese, he would of Been mad that he wasn't charging more......lol

they wouldnt know if you have changed the oil

and not that it would matter anyway unless you use non spec oil and can be proved that it was the cause of the failure

each new vehicle i have had i have dumped the oil once it got home and you would be amazed at how much small metal flake is in the oil , you can see it but its too small to be filtered out

i have also used aftermarket filters and never had a vehicle in the dealer again unless its been a warranty issue so i am way way way in front of potential warranty issues

The reason you see these in the oil is because they don't make their way to the filter. They stay in the sump. Very small particles make no difference at all, provided the oil supply is OK. As long as the particles are smaller than the bearing clearance, any particle in the oil will simply pass through. As for parts in contact, they are already in contact.

In the past cars used to have magnetic sump plugs, however they fell out of favour because in the DIY era, owners used to almost have heart attacks when they saw this little tree of filings attracted to the magnet on the sump plug. The magnets were dropped. There was no sudden increase in engine failures, or filters getting clogged, but owners no longer felt like something was wrong with their pride and joy.

Engines are mechanical components, and there are many surfaces that are in direct contact, and you will get particles generated. This is perfectly normal, and is why you have filters. The filters will filter out particles that have been picked up by the oil pump and not allow them to circulate through the engine.

how can particles just stay in the sump ?

if there is particles in the oil they either get caught by the oil filter or they are too small for the filter to catch

either way metal particles in oil isnt good no matter their size

regarding sump plugs, yes what you say has some merit , but as well with the advent of alloy engines , alloy isnt magnetic
