No... the issue with doing this is that, the dealers don't get to put in the orders for the people that have "pre ordered" until AFTER the car is released. So even though Sharkie had his deposit down for over a year, no suitable cars came into the country, so he is still without a car and will just have to put a factory order in like any other person that wants to purchase one now....

Dealers should not be taking deposits for cars not yet released. Volkswagen Group Australia themselves say that the dealers should not be doing this.

It's not necessarily that it's smaller as such (although it could be, it's not like I have the engineering diagrams from both), but since the DSG is basically two manual gearboxes strapped together, one 'gearbox' having half the gears, the 'second gearbox' having the other half of the gears, arranged sorta side-by-side so they use the same output shaft, it's maybe not as long as the manual.

(sorry, I do actually have some engineering details on the 6sp DSG, but not the newer 7sp DSG, nor the 6 speed manual used in the Polo).

DSG is bigger and heavier.

I'm aware, and as my post says, it's not necessarily that the DSG has a smaller volume, but the dimensions of it allow it to fit whereas Volkswagen themselves state that the manual does not fit.

Any guess to how much a 5 door dsg with leather will most likely be? under $30k ?

Unlikely.
The current Polo GTI is $26990 RRP. It's about $30,600 on the road. So that's for a 3 door manual with cloth interior.
5 door usually adds $1500, DSG $2500, leather $3300.

Having said that, Volkswagen Group Australia have surprised many people with their aggressive pricing, so it may be better than we expect, but unlikely you'll get all of that on the road for under $30,000

went to a dealer on the weekend, was told they are expecting the car in oct.

5 doors dsg ard $32,000r.r.p. + on road. thats abt the same price as golf tsi XD. 6R polo gti maybe the most expansive polo ever once you add on road and few options. Hopefully, they'll offer r.rp drive away as this particular deal i went to, else buying golf maybe a better option? or Audi A1 anyone?

also told there is manual option as well??? i thought dsg as standard in euro.

also there is a polo gti in the counrty for all vw managers to test drive appearently. how abt us vw?

Well not really. To buy the Golf GTI you'd be looking at $42,990.00 + onroads.... so not really sure how that's an alternative to someone that was originally looking at a $32,000 car plus onroads...

The Audi A1 is on the Polo platform. So again, that's no alternative to someone look at the Polo, because it'll likely be priced against the Mini. So by the time you get to the S1 (Polo GTI equiv), you'll be looking at more than Golf GTi prices!

I still think that VW will try to get the Polo GTI into the 29990+ORC region. They have to as they have been rolling Golf GTIs out the door for $39K drive away!

I think the Citroen DS3 will be the small hot hatch to get when it is released. The reviews of this car seem to be way above expectations.

sorry i dont mean golf gti, but tsi or tdi. less sporty than polo gti but more practical.
well, lets wait and see how vw pull this one off.
