    GTI not well

Has anyone experienced their GTI running roughly, surging etc and having catalyst light come on (sometimes blinking other times full on). EPC light may also blink. Runs roughly most of the time and can cause lights by holding in a gear at >3000rpm driving or in neutral whilst stationary. A trip to the dealers on Friday to see what they say.

That's trying to hold revs steady in neutral.

Several trips to dealer. Couldn't replicate, blah, blah.

Possible solutions suggested included new injectors and new engine (!)

Ended up being deformed wire on air mass meter.

    All OK now.

For the most part it sounds like its misfiring / or not firing at all. I would have a look at the MAP sensors, or the ignition system. Most of the time the spark plugs are fowled up from the excessive oil burning or the coil packs fail in typical VW fashion.

Could be the injectors but unlikely as there is very little to go wrong with them - but as it only does it over 3000rpm I would be checking delivery system (fuel system).

When a engine check light or EPC is triggered its usually permanent until a engine reset. They won't usually flash and go away - VCDS would be a massive help here to see what the problem is...

Had my EPC light come on as well and after pulling over to have a look at the manual when i started the car again it had switched off. So took it in to the dealership and after 45 min the techie comes in and tells me there is no compression on cylinder2. So apparently getting new engine but 4 weeks later and they still say they doing tests. December 2011 Polo gti.
