    GTI DAP Sat Nav

    After going to a dealer (Sydney City ex Barloworld) where the dealer I spoke couldn't correctly name the option packs for the Polo GTI, let alone the features in each.....

    If you get Driver Assistance Package with satellite navigation, parking sensors and Driver Fatigue Detection System. In terms of the Sat Nav, what does this give you over using Google Maps etc via Android Auto? Can you use,say, Here Maps if you have a SG6 or does AA limit you to what apps can be used?

    Not sure what you need to improve on but my MY16 w DAP Sat Nav works v well. Must admit, guidance compared to Google Maps does differ slightly.....albeit marginally

    Android Auto and Carplay both limit the apps that you can use. The point of them is to reduce driver distraction.
    So for sat nav you would be probably restricted to Google and Apple Maps respectively.

    I have found the Sat Nav in the DAP option to be very good. It's fast and directions are clear. Android Auto Google maps works differently with the occasional usual glitches but it's a real life saver for me when I didn't have Sat Nav and was lost in the outer suburbs. Still use the good ol' Melways (large Print version) at times!
    Sadly, Pandora App installed on smartphone does not appear when using Android Auto, I think that app has to be installed into the media unit.

    I have an RNS510 in my current ride and the maps are slowly updated and up until recently were hideously expensive.

    I was thinking if you had AA you wouldn't even need sat nav. But thanks for the feedback.

    What else does Discover Media infotainment system give you over the Composition Media infotainment system (the 'standard' one)?

    We decided against DAP when purchasing our MY16 and use Apple CarPlay for navigation. As you also get the reversing camera now as standard equipment I wouldn't waste my money on the DAP.

    Just curious, without DAP on MY16 did you get rear sensors as standard? With DAP front and rear sensors are installed.

    That's a 'No'. DAP gets you;

    Satnav
    Front and Rear sensors (Distance + Park Pilot)

    I have found the F + R sensors to be useful in tight spots
