VW to discontinue twincharged turbos?

I know it's all speculation, but if it's true, does this mean the Polo GTI?

I know it's all speculation, but if it's true, does this mean the Polo GTI?

With the advances in variable stator turbochargers that have not been adopted widely as yet in the performance car sector, they can create a cracker of an engine platform with a slightly larger engine + variable stator turbo combo.

I've seen nothing but issues with twin-charged engines after a year or two (sometimes less).

Yes apples, it means the GTI.

CTHE is to replace the GTI's CAVE engine as of 5/2012, wether or not this will have the twincharged setup or not is pure speculation at this stage but one thing is for sure, it sure isn't the "cost and complexity" that is the reason behind discontinuing the engine. It is the inherrent issues that poor quality control and testing has neglected to pick up, namely oil consumptio (accross the model ranges) and things like the supercharger clutch squeaks.

While I like my GTI and don't have major oil consumption issues, I am already debating if I keep the car beyond the warranty period and even bother modifying it.

I've got the same engine in my Golf; I've been reading news about the new Mk7 Golf and it appears the model that has similar power figures to my car will be a hybrid. I guess the electric motor will effectively replace the supercharger. There's a thread with links in the Mk6 Golf subforum here.

Gavs, i would trade in and get the new Mk7 GTI/R.

or if you can't meet said budget trade for the facelift variant of the polo

So what is the difference with the motor... CTHE Motor to replace CAVE Motor?
That is not the GTI motor either, is it?

Well there is the fact that it is a very unreliable and high oil usage motor.

I think a twin turbo charged golf/polo would be better imo.
