Did you happen to price genuine parts from the Stealership?

Are the Brackets (made) an extra cost or job to do?

What do you mean the size of the square on the screen, was it not full frame?

    Cheers

No idea on genuine cost here, wouldn't bother myself as VW {factory} source these from a similar place themselves.
The brackets are definitely an extra cost, they were custom made by a member on here - nothing to do with VW.
The square size is when the video feed comes through there are "guide" lines IN the image {every rvc i've seen has these lines}. These lines are based on the golf as its a golf camera, so the "width" lines are a touch too wide. Almost guarantees we don't kerb the rims!
I've had the rvc in the car since almost new and the mrs and i still love it.

    Cheers... Much appreciated.
Just picked up my jigger and am just looking at what I can do to it.

Considerting the rear parking sensors are so expensive $700, I might consider this.

It does install to the standard NON Navigation headunit doesn't it?

About a billion times better than rear sensors. The wide angle lens lets you see everything, very useful in carparks as you can see people walking in from the sides (and vehicles). It works with the std headunit. Best to pop it out and check if yours has the rear connector needed though, my my13 didn't, so I bought one that did (+300 or so) and swapped it at the same time.

The cameras will connect to an RCD510 as long as it has the extra camera connector - it varies between models.

The resolution is lower than the nav ver (RNS510), but it'll work - just wont look as good.

I priced it up and was $300 for an RCD510 $360 for the camera and $40 for the adapter.
Then a poster said those cameras off Ebay were no good so gave it away as a wasted job.

Have a RVC in the Passat and dont use it all that often as I find when reversing into my garage the car is in the sun and the garage is in shade and I cant see into it because of that so just use the mirrors as I have for last 50 years LOL

IMHO this is a no brainer mod, its great. Like others I've found this setup to be perfectly reliable and accurate. In fact Ive just spent 6weeks in rental cars and really missed the RVC I have at home, perhaps I have a more challenging driveway than Hillbilly, it certainly doesnt have any sun LOL.

The problem I have is that when reversing in, the camera, most times, is in direct sunlight and compensates for that and therefore the garage which is dark doesnt show up hardly at all until the camera gets into the shade.

By then Ive hit the doorframe LOL

I agree they are great almost everywhere else.

I have been told that we are getting lazy with all these toys and that we should learn to driver properly… but then I view these things as aids which enhance your perception of things.

Having had both it's a hard to say which I would have if I could only have one (sensors vs camera).

The Van has both a camera and the sensors and they just work so well together. The camera is brilliant while backing up but the audible beep when something jumps out. As observant as you can be, you can't physically look 360 degrees around the car at the same time.

The Golf only has the rear camera and I have to say that the times I really notice the lack of sensors is when backing out of a tight space.

You tend to concentrate on the front corners and wing mirrors to ensure they don't hit a pole/car/garage door etc so aren't paying as much attention behind you. The sensors have beeped at me numerous times in the Van as some fool drives past me while I'm backup out. I'm tempted to get the sensors installed in the Golf too… but as has been said, they are a little expensive and require far more work than the camera does.

Next time around I'm getting both.

Given the choice I would have the lot and have them aid me, and I agree you cant just reply on them. My driveway is challenging and the camera helps very much, sans camera in larger cars was no fun at all and ive seen countless delivery drivers in vans an utes catch or clip the walls over the years.

Does it make us lazy. nope. I still swivel my head all over the place when reversing, only a fool just looks at a screen.
