    Gloss Black Rims

    Hey guys,

After only having my car for a couple of weeks I've managed to curb the rear passenger alloy...

I am looking to get this repaired and have all rims sprayed gloss black in the process. Does anyone recommend a place to get this done?

I have a MY12.5 GTI with the Denver alloys and realise that the MY13's come with Detroits now. While I do like the look of the Detroits I'd rather have my entire rims sprayed gloss black for a bit more of a unique look.

I am located in Sydney btw.

    Regards,
    Adam

A while back I looked at a number of the wheel repairers listed on (i think) the Skyline forum. Most were not cheap to repair the damage like they are in the USA or UK, where they also have guys in vans who come to you, but a few of them did paint too. Of course its only paint and any body shop should be able to do them I reckon.

You didn't by any chance take out the Rim Insurance when you bought it did you? that would be helpful if you did

I did not get rim insurance as they're only 17s.

A mobile wheel repairer to fix the curb rash for a couple of hundred dollars, so I'm not too concerned about that.

VWplo, how did you go about spraying your alloys? That's exactly the look I want! My GTI is white and the black wheels would be a great contrast.

I've got the rim insurance, I'm not sure if they're all the same but with mine you have to make the rim irrepairable to claim.

Each to their own my friend, a few of us looked into it before we got our white gti's and then we found one in Melbourne and it looked, well........ Crap to be honest. Too much negative black space vs the positive white space of the car. However, if you get thin spoke alloys and get them gloss black, they look ok.

im also looking for a place that will sort my rims out in Melbourne.

In South Africa i got my rims done.

they straiten the rim ( if needed )
fix the marks big and small.
    paint
bake (so its "chip prof" and hardy like a stock rim)

i was thinking matt black but might go for dark gunmetal gray

when i find a place i will get them to recommender a Sydney place.

Any paint shop worth it's salt will bake the painted part after painting. It's nothing to do with chip resistance, it's to help the 2 pack paint "go off" and cure quicker. There is a couple of mobile wheel repairers others in the golf area of the forum have used, I even think there is a thread about "wheel repair in Melbourne" in the wheels and suspension area of the forum.
