Cool Getting the upgrades started - ECU Tune, Insurance and Future mods

    Hi All,

First post, long time reader first time poster, I got myself a cheeky Polo GTi after letting go of my 06 Mazda MPS in Feb this year, am missing the power but love the fact I'm driving auto over manual now, Sydney traffic, forget it!

I'm organizing my tune tonight through CPi, will be expecting a 15-20KW gain from what I have been told, will let you know if/when I get around to a dyno.

For those whom have had tunes, is it an expensive exercise against my insurance policy? (with Just Car)

I'm planning on adjusting the suspension, have read through some of the other threads, still not finding an answer around - I want the b@stard to look a little lower, but still feel soft (my girlfriend gets car sick, maybe I should get her adjusted).

Also looking into whiteline sway bars too, I've been quoted $295 for the rears, how much do you think it would cost to install? (I know nothing!)

Will have pics up on Sunday.

    Mike

    Welcome to the forum Mike.

Your intended CPi tune sounds interesting, particularly this quote "Our units are undetectable by factory diagnostics when a 5-10min removal process is followed" - not sure any tune specialists would believe that.

Tune: Your motor for a brand new 2014 Polo will definitely be a CTHE which leaves you with limited tune options and the CPi one may work for you.
Suspension: If you do not want to spend too much and you are not looking to go too low I would recommend Eibach springs (exactly the same as VWRs) - view photo 'Album' of my Polo in my profile. The ride you will get will be only a little firmer than std.
Comprehensive accident insurance: Every company will have a different policy on mods. I have notified mine (RAA in SA) of all my mods. and premium has not changed.

Keep reading the existing posts, particularly the 'stickies' for the 6R Polo.

    Cheers

    Thanks CR,

Thats really helpful, I will look into the Eibach springs and trawl through some of those stickies posts.

I'll check in again tonight after the CPi tune too then next weekend.

    Hi Mike,

I have the Weitec HiconGT installed. On default height it's pretty much perfect with no scrubbing bar huge bumps. I found the ride to be actually softer over big and harsh bumps, and more compliant than the stock suspension with the added bonus of turns being flatter and more go-kart like. My girlfriend gets car sick as well so this was a massive plus. Also, the KW V1 are the same as well (basically same as Weitec GT just different branding I believe).

Enjoy the little GTI. It's a fun little thing

    Thanks Daniel,

Got the tune done tonight. Car feels a lot lighter, I very rarely drive with traction control off (or flat chat if I'm honest) so it was hard to notice a bit difference, however it definitely feels a lot faster and more responsive, happy with the CPi tune so far.

Been doing my homework today on the stickies and read through all the suspension VAG posts, seems a lot to take in... Not sure if I should still get the rear sway bars now, I do zero track and just drive on a windy road to and from work.

I will look into those suspension suggestions too, thanks for your help today guys, that's been really helpful.

I can't seem to find where I can get those Weitec HiconGTs purchased + installed in Sydney. I've got the whiteline swaybar coming next weekend and was aiming to organize the whole lot at once (swaybar + lowering) anyone know of anyone in Sydney? I'm also looking to sell my 17" Denvers and swapping them for AFTERMARKET REPLICA WHEELS AUDI GTI 17X7.5 5x100 MACHINE FACE/BLACK LIP WHEEL & TYRE PACKAGE - OzzyTyres

Then I've got the CPi DSG tune booked in for the next few weeks whilst I do some aesthetics (I really like the look of the black/silver GTi wing fenders on eBay per the 2015 styling) gloss black vinyl wrap the roof, replace all interior lights + number plate lights with white LEDs then... Take a break till next year and start on the stage 2 stuff (Downpipe/exhaust/RVC) then... Buy house and act like an adult
