Wow, been a whole since an update so, here goes!

As mentioned, the tune was fantastic. Unlike previously the power delivery no longer tapered off in 3rd gear, it just pulled and pulled like a 14yr old boy!
So, what better way to show it off than to organise a cruise with the fellow 6r brethren. Alas, a mechatronics cock-up saw me out, most of you will now the following 6 week story and as such, you are all welcome for getting your cars recalled

After finally getting my car back it was time to find out what she can really do so, down a certain eastern arm of Port Philip Bay the viezu racing polo was able to stretch its legs!

Flick lever into M, traction control off, pause, launch and feather throttle... Not enough feathering, more feathering Gavin! smoke, stinky rubber, huge grin ok, take 2....
Launch more feathering, hint-o-spin, grips, rev limiter, chirp on up change, rev limiter, check speed.... Holy sheeeeeet batman!! Cool car down, accelerate up on-ramp in 3rd, road goddamn bumpy, traction light going mental, change into 4th, cold sweat, adrenaline coursing through veins, massive grin the car was now wickedly fast but unfortunately it highlighted the deficiency I the stock rubber. 6000-8000km and the Dunlop SP Sport MAXX were great but they tapered of quite dramatically becoming squealing dogs of tyres.

So, after further discussions with Simon at Viezu, we further formulated the plan. Update to software, production intake and exhaust...

    Fast forward 6 months...

At this point the fastest time I had seen was 6.1, even though I felt the car got faster with the tune settling in. I sourced some new rubber after a very long debate and settled on the Bridgestone RE002. A fantastically grippy, yet also quiet and comfortable tyre, time for another test then but, before then I got a phone call, time to do some updates...

    Ola carbon!!!!

At this point, we also had another goodie to go with it...

    Ola stainless!!!!

The noise this little polo makes now is sublime. Not ricey, it has a nice little bassy-ness to its rasp. The turbo spool and dsg ignition cut are fantastic and even with the latest update to the tune which makes for better economy, fuel economy has disappeared!

I know that carbon engine cover doesn't really add any performance but I have to admit it looks good Looking forward to the day that I feel confident enough to mod my polo...

Sometimes you just have to take the plunge man! I did and I love the fact that the car is running safer than from factory, burns less oil from factory and wastes a polo from factory, and golf GTI and many other cars if I want to. If not, I get better fuel economy from factory

So, after an incredibly long absence from posting (i've been lurking in the shadows every now and then however....) what has been happening to the Project Polo.... Well, it's going in for a lobotomy

Kris is Melbourn'es RD Technik rep and he popped over the other day and we had a chat about what we could do with the polo's thinking bits. This is because I have been planning a DSG tune ever since I got the car but after speaking with RD Technik, the ECU tune is considerably more powerful than the viezu stage 2+ tune I am running and the DSG tune will actually increase power and torque due to optimising the power delivery. The ignition cut will no longer sound like a pfffft and instead be replaced with an A45-esque CRRRACK!!! due to the increased gearchange speed.

All of this is very exciting and has taken so long because the main things happening to the Polo are that it's been getting it's new stable renovated for the last 12 months as well as a ~45 year old stable-mate restored so they won't be lonely

    Bring on the power.....

Looking forward to seeing the results of this! Will the engine components be able to take it? You never had your pistons replaced, did you? Following with interest!
