    Fuel/Tank Flap

Im a silly bugger and knocked the fuel door/flap the wrong way when I was getting petrol the other day, its barley hanging on so Im looking to replace it (White Polo MY12.5 GTI). My local VW service centre quoted me $361.50 (Fuel flap: $144.00
    Stickers: $15.00, Paint: $120.00, Labour: $82.50).

Anybody know where I can get my hands on one? I'd rather do it myself than pay VW $82 to install it in what is a 5 min job.

    Cheers,

    Stirl

You can order one in from the dealer which will still change you the same price but you might be able to get trade pricing which is 5-10% off.

The stickers I would just peel off from the old one. Do it carefully and slow enough it should come of fine.

As for paint work I would go down to a local panal beater and see if they can paint it. I'm sure it would be much cheaper than 120$. VW don't paint parts themselves anyway so you could ask who they go through and then ask them directly.

That way you can (more or less) guarantee they are going to match the colour as they have had plenty of time working on other VW's.

As for fitting I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard but if you need the workshop manual for body repairs - shoot me a PM

    Thanks for the info namadx38.

I have managed to remove/refit the current flap (I thought it was metal and I was going to get a mate to weld it) so installing will be easy enough to do. I cant believe they would charge so much for a 5 min job.

They have been easy to deal with for me.

They are bound to have a 6r somewhere in the country, they'll have it taken off and sent to you, then it's a paint and fit. Have them give you a price, might work out a lot cheaper.

You will probably be able to find a 2nd hand one in your colour and pay for that only, no painting required. There's red, white, yellow, and grey polos wrecking on ebay and theres a black one on gumtree.
