I don't trust the cars fuel consumption meter to do accurate measurements.
Yeah, there are a few apps that do the work for you. The computer is pretty accurate though.

My GTI, 30 minutes on a track, hitting up to 170km/h on the straight... 8.7l/100km... Very impressive...

Was all done at highway limit and at one stage about 30 over for a short spurt.

Was quite impressed as was quite comfortable as well.

Actually like the seat backs better than my Passat they are more contoured and hug you better.
That is stunning economy. There is no way I would get such a low figure at the freeway limit unless it was mostly flat with no headwinds. My day to day driving yields 6.1 l per 100 and I think I am too light footed. I would probably get better consumption if I used more throttle, since I would get to speed faster and the engine revs on average over time would be lower.

Just under 2,000kms on my GTI now. A trip to Dubbo return last week yielded 6.6 l/100km for the 850km (2 x 80kg blokes + luggage), cruise set, and mostly 110kph. Very gusty winds for both legs.

A trip over to Cooma today on my favourite road in Oz (Snowy Mountains Highway) and averaged 6.3 l/100kms for the 285kms. Very "spirited" driving as I always do on this road. GTI and DSG were made for these kind of roads. Was the best drive I've had for many years! Fuel economy should be even better on the way home on Friday, as it's down hill on the way home

I'm in love with this car, and it's only going to get better as it runs in.

Oh, and no oil usage to report on to-date

    Cheers

As an update to prev reply.

Took the Passat down to Coffs over weekend

Left Thursday Took 5 1/2 hours with roadworks to get there.

Did a few ks on the Friday and came home on Monday.

    Did 1014.6km for the trip

Filled up today and it took 56.12 L right up to where I had filled it before leaving.

That works out at about 5.53 L per 100km

Used adaptive cruise all the trip and set it to give 102kph on the canbus speed which is 109 on the speedo.

Observed all the roadwork speed limits as well.

Thought that was pretty good as came home in exactly 5 hours for the trip Coffs to Bribie.

Was 2 of us and a couple of overnight bags only.

Except, if you are like me, what you have wiped off the dipstick in your paranoia about whether it is actually using any or not I am starting to think my paranoid $25 purchase of the special VW oil was a waste - it will likely reach it's expiry date before I even need it.

Just thought I'd add to this, have had my Polo GTI for a week now and I've found it SUPER economical. And Im driving with a bit of a lead foot, mind. On the drive from Adelaide to Sydney it used maybe $150 of petrol in total (98 octane) and averaged somewhere around 5.5L/100km. Since getting to town and driving around Sydney, I'm averaging in the high 7's which I think is very good for the way I drive! My last car was a Commodore which averaged 14.1L/100km around town! (And a full tank of E10 was usually more than $100).

    Polo FTW!
