I have managed comfortably a ridiculous number HWY... i looked down at the speedo and its reading.. 780km until refill.. 146 km trip so far.. i thought that can't be right maybe once i get up to why speed out on the country roads it will change... and it did.. 780km until refill... 218km trip.. mmmm however getting into the city on a normal week i squeeze out 610 - 640 km on my 12km each way drive.

I have a photo stored on my phone of the touchscreen showing a range of 980km after travelling 227km. I've never been able to quite match that again.

It can alter depending on when you take the reading Eg you have been going downhill or with a tailwind for a while and it calculates reading from average at the time and says one thing.

Reality of getting to that figure may be very different.

According to mfd 7.3l/100km over 2000km in all types of driving

On one route it is always between 6.9-7.3 but after DSG software update, mfd is telling me i'm consuming 8+ for same route ...even drove in normal, and sports, and only negligible difference between them....furthermore the avg consumption fluctuates quite a bit now over short periods...see if it rectifies, else back to dealership

Yeah, that 227km with 980 km range was after a fill in Toowoomba and a 100km/h drive to Goondiwindi- just easy flat land driving, actually downhill a bit as over that distance altitude dropped from 700m to 220m. The average consumption showed 4.5L/100km and the average speed 79km/h (couple of towns and a few roadwork stops or crawls). That average is the same as my Blue Mts / Toowoomba trip recently. And according to official claims all other Golf engine/gearbox combinations (except GTI) should be even better.

My real figures since I bought the GTI (only done 7 fills):
    Average: 6.89l/100km over 3816km
Best: 6.11l/100km and 658km from the tank
Worst: 7.63l/100km and 545km from the tank

Having its first birthday service on Friday.

My MY13.5 Polo GTi has 8000ks on the clock now, at an average of 6.6L/100 (not using the MFD calc, it claims 6.4L/100) I'm happy with that as the old car was lucky to get 400k out of a 55L tank.....

A year on and 30,000km later, my fuel consumption has rising to an average of 6.7lt/100km... I haven't changed my driving style...

    What could be going on?

Maybe try changing your spark plugs.

I just updated mine after 37K...not because of below par fuel economy...and when I inspected old plugs they were totally shot.
