I drive toyotas all the time....The Toyota Kluger, HiLux and the Toyota corolla at work...They are Defence fleet cars....They are great A-B cars....they just look and feel very cheap.

Ever driven a current model Beetle ....

Even my R is hardly a great drivers car.

How anyone can equate the 86 they haven't driven to a Corolla, that meets with positive reviews by professional drivers, is interesting

Don't get me wrong the 86 looks really great....I am interested in the car...

    No never driven a beetle....

I owned a BMW E36 M3 EVO .... That was pretty awesome....I am actually keen on getting that experience back for a lot less in the 86 (even though the power isn't there; although I'm sure it will be fun!) seeing as i can't afford a new M3 and after having bad experiences with used cars i'd rather stick to brand new at the moment.

Just the fact its a Toyota puts me off and all the car reviews have stated even by 'Toyotas standards the cabin interior is below par' And the standards of the Toyota cabins that I jump in leave much to be desired.

I wanna feel like I'm driving a quality car....Not more so impress the bloke next to me at the traffic lights.....

There's only so much money you can pour into a car with a RRP of $29k. I'd gather a lot of it went into the engine (100HP per litre, naturally aspirated), drivetrain development, fine-tuning of the steering, suspension & vehicle dynamics, driver feedback, etc.

From looking at the photos, I'd say the criticisms of the interior are valid.

If you want a car with an expensive feeling interior, the 86/BRZ is not for you.

They are both built by Subaru in the same factory. There won't be any difference in quality, and resale differences will only be due to brand perception by consumers in the second hand market. If anything, the fact that the Toyota is identical except some minor trim & damper settings will bring down the second hand value of the Subaru version. I don't see how they'll be able to price it much higher (except maybe with extra equipment).

Seeing as the primary engineering was done by Subaru & most of the hardware is from Subaru's parts bin, it's more Subaru than Toyota. Except that the styling isn't hideous as per Subaru's recent form.

You are right, new Toyotas are fairly boring. But during the 80's and early 90's, they had a ranged of cars which oozed character, were fun to drive, fairly quick, made all the right noises and were still cheap to run! Some of the cars they made back then were fantastic!! Im just hoping they tapped into what they had for the 86....

the next person to call the 86 a 4 seater should be shot. There is no way if you ever need to cart more than 2 people around on any reasonable distance could the 86 work for you.

I ended up with the 5 door GTI, and as much as its a pain (i'd love the longer front door) to drive when I drive to and from work - its great to be able to take out as a small run about family car with the kids to the shops or elsewhere.

I dunno about here but in Singapore having my GTR labelled as a 4 seated helped in lowering insurance premiums. I reckon Toyota made the same call. Useless in practice unless it's with a short driver and very young kids

You reckon it's like the porsche 911? I was at the Porsche factory in Leipzig a few years back and the guy suggested we try and fill the car so it was to capacity. With 2 of us in the back, you couldn't fit in the front seats like the toyota soarer, a massive 2 door cruiser with bugger all rear leg room.
