I am keen to see what the subaru looks like. I hope the interior is better.

Don't expect much difference acko, aside from the badge your going to be hard pressed to tell the difference. Take a look at carsguide.com.au and see if you can tell the difference...

Check out topgear Australia's 14 things about the 86.

It may not be as upmarket as a GTI but I find the plastics usually last longer than rubberized parts. Plus I love the center aligned tachometer. It's like a prerequisite to be considered a true drivers/sports orientated car

The Subaru BRZ 86 has a different suspension set up to Toyotas 86 and i feel will be the better built unit and hold its resale value slightly better than Toyotas ....... however its still not a True sports car IMHO

It's a badge thing, much the way some see Toyota.

    Drive one, then comment

The Golf/Polo is a nice place to be and a good all rounder but not a drivers car

That may be the case for Australian assembled variants. But the 86 is built in Japan so the QC should be better.

What makes it ineligible for the tag IYO? It's as much a sports car as the legendary Datsun 240Z IMHO
