or you could just stroll into your local dealer and have it done for free....
Its called mapcare, and it is provided free of charge to customer...
Alternatively you can do it your way, which has been known for some time
BOOM! New "2015" maps available for discover media - free download
ALSO WORKS FOR 6C POLOS
I get my car serviced by an independent so no chance of free map updates.
You may have read this thread in the Mk7 golf forum. I managed to update my 2015 Polo maps after downloading from this South American site. If you have a post November 2015 Polo then you will likely have the latest maps but I expect there will be a further map update available from this site later in the year, which may or may not work on 2016 models.
Note:
Follow the link above to the South American site.
The Mk7 Golf map files are different to Polos. Make sure you change country as in photos and select Polo maps.
Be sure to back up your existing V2 SD card before you start messing around, I was lucky enough to have a spare VW V2 card, no other SD card will work.
Format the VW SD card after you have backed it up. You may have a system folder left that you can not delete, that does not matter.
When you select year of car it only has 2014 but I definitely^ have the updated Nov 2015 maps now, my car is an April 2015.
I advise that you do not split the zip file when downloading. It took around 5 hours to download the 5.7Gbyte file. You will need 7Zip to unpack it.
Make sure the root directory of the card has only the one folder 'maps' + the windows system folder you can not get rid of. There are a number of sub-directories of course under the map folder.
^ The Southern Expressway that Adelaideans are familiar with was still described as "part of this route is subject to time constraints" on my old maps, not on new ones which is now true with extra lane construction completed ages ago and download page is titled "New Map Release November 2015".

Well you must have a bloody good dealer or perhaps you are from another planet or maybe you just don't have a driver's licence yet? it's certainly not free of charge at my dealer. Like I stated I don't get my car serviced at my dealer so no freebies.
Perhaps you should also troll through the Mark 7 golf forum threads and post the inaccurate opinions you have made above in the Golf forum's thread on the free map downloads and see what reaction you get.
