    Flash Red.

Hey guys just a quick question about possible fading of cars painted flash red.
I have been told that because i didn't get the paint protection extra when buying my polo that I am now more susceptible to the colour fading earlier compared to your darker colours.
Is this true and if so what do you recommend I do to try and preserve the colour?

only if u park out in the sun all the time and treat the paint terribly by never washing it.
if u have a garage at home and work, and regularly wash and apply decent (high quality) waxes and polishes (get it detailed professionally at least once a year). then the paint should last years

Have a look in the detailing area of the forum, one of the best detailers in the country is a member (DMS Dan) and has posted up some really good guides on there about what to do and what to use.

My opinion? Get onto car care products website (they're in sydney) and order some Zaino Z2 straight up. Wash your car thoroughly and then apply 2-3 coats of this stuff, then wax over the top, the wax (dependant on how muc you spend) will be your sacrificial layer and should last around 1-3 months, the Z2 is a paint sealant and provides a nice barrier between paint and the elements, but it is not permanent, lasting around 6-8 months depending on much you care for your paint.

.......all excellent advice and never forget to immediately clean off bird crap which is very corrosive.

Yeah agreed, BS spinning from the dealers.. They make a little on the side from those little paint protection add ons i'm guessing.
As mentioned above go to a decent detailer and get them to add paint protection at a fraction of the cost, thats what i will be doing with my Red GTi when i get it.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately my car is in direct sunlight for most of the day and because of this I will look around for a decent detailer who can apply the paint protection themselves.
I have enquired with the mob who wash the cars at work and he quoted me a price of $375 with a 3 year warranty.

Save yourself alot of money and buy this http://www.couplertec.com.au/paint-s...w-all-products from Couplertec (the 500 Mls will do a Polo 3 times). May pay you to get the wash also as it adds more protectant as you wash Couplertec - Wash & Wax .

It is the same stuff car yards use, for about $50 delivered. Only need to reapply yearly. I did my Golf with this stuff & it's very good. It is also good for wheels (better than wheel wax).

Of course there is always a down side. With this, you cannot use Quick Detailers as it will remove the protection.

They told me the exact same thing. Red and black being the worst. Didn't buy it.
If you look at all the cars out on the roads today...seriously, how many are really faded??
Sure, they probaly get a slight bit of fading with age, but if you keep good care of it it should be ok. I've never had any problems with my cars.
Just trying to grab more money. Quite sad actually how much they mark it up too.
