The problem is that gearbox revs can't be matched at standstill. Synchros not that great. Apart from changing to a heavier oil, best I can think of is sit on the clutch a bit longer before changing to let the input shaft gears slow down.
My old Honda Civic did the opposite. Slick change went to baulky and stiff with synthetic multigrade engine oil. Box was happier with single weight sae 30 ( still synthetic).
3rd gear is 'troublesome' in my GTI. Doesn't like being rushed (WOT run) - advised by a VW mechanic that it feels 'different' to other gears but still being broken in compared to other gears. 2nd to 3rd or 4th to 3rd, it just doesn't slot in nicely like others.
