usually you can just replace the actuator depending which turbo is fitted
I lost power to my baby and the EPC light flashed, disappeared and then the icon representing "Fault in the catalytic converter" came on. I took my car to the mechanic this morning.
My mechanic has told me that my actuator has failed. 2 weeks out of warranty! He gave me a fault code of P334B00. I'm taking my baby to the dealership on Monday. I'm devastated

Thanks. I just hope it will be fixed under goodwill warranty.
This happened after stalling my car twice. My mechanic said the I'm stalling the engine because of the faulty actuator. When I stalled the car and restarted the engine that's when I lost power.
You should have seen me driving it home tonight. I was revving the car so much because I wad afraid of stalling it again and losing power!

They come as a complete unit from the dealer. Drop me a PM if you need a help out with it.
Thanks Snail Style. I'll see what the dealership says on Monday. My mechanic thinks the dealership should fix it under warranty.
When I dropped it into him for it's service last week I jokingly said my car will now break down because it's now out of warranty! If only I could predict the lotto numbers as accurately.
To top it off my microwave blew up on me tonight. Bad things happen in 3s. I'm not tempting fate so I'd better switch off my tv!

just realised its a 77tsi, have never replaced a turbo on this yet. Will be interesting to see what the outcome is
Just make sure the campaign for the wastegate shims was done correctly.
Took my car to VW today. Apparently there is nothing wrong with my car. They carried out the 24v9 service campaign software update. That's what was causing my issues.
They said there was no recall because it wasn't a safety issue. Considering my car went into limp mode I would have thought that was pretty unsafe.

This can happen when the tolerances are altered (e.g: just bad luck). Good outcome I would say, free repair for you and not a major fault...
(Had your car been out of warranty longer and you didn't take it to the dealer, sounds like your mechanic would have put you up for a new turbo which is always down too 'backstreet garage inexperience') so to speak. Unfortunate as this is how VW gets such a bad rep... People don't know what they are doing.
Given that the 170bhp PD 2 litre diesels weren't recalled for a fault that would totally shut down the engine (reports of cars in the fast lane on freeways having to swerve across multiple lanes to get to the emergency lane before they stopped rolling), I can't see limp mode bothering VW much.
