From what I understand the 24v9 campaign applies to only a certain batch of VINs, which seems to be prior to 2012ish. Last service I had no luck convincing the dealer staff that I wanted this carried out, because my VIN supposedly does not match the affected batch. Certainly seems it should be carried out given this thread. Has anyone else managed to convince their dealer to have this done on their car, or am I worrying over nothing?

Worrying over nothing mate. There was a re-casting of the turbo+manifold which from what I can see was 2012 onwards. With this update the turbo actuator moved from a 45deg angle to a almost horizontal position. I would assume when they moved the position they would have added 2mm to the cast to put more tension on the actuator rod which is all the shim does in the 29v4 update.
