    Extended Warranty

    Hey all,

Asking this on behalf of my brother who is about to purchase a 2011 Polo 77TSI manual. It has 15,000km on the clock. The dealer is offering him a 3yr/200,000km extended warranty for $1,395. The car comes with a 3 month statutory warranty otherwise.

He's getting the car for $12.8K. What are peoples opinion on the extra warranty? I'm not sure how susceptible the Polo's are to faults like I've read about in regards to the Golf, and the fact its a manual removes the DSG from the equation. My brother also lives quite close to his work and reckons he'd be lucky to crack 5,000km a year.

I'd take it for the peace of mind but my father says its a waste and my brother is on the fence.

This from an Audi dealer in the Melbourne CBD (I believe).

    Cheers,

    - Matt

It's a third party warranty most likely from Allianz, it barely covers much and you only get to claim $1,000 of works per year totalling $3,000 over the three year period. It's a scam, a joke and still surprised it hasn't been legislated out to force dealerships to offer extended manufacturers warranties only.

Thanks mate. I just got hold of a copy of the PDS and am reading through it now. It is covered by Allianz (although the 'z' is missing...in fact there are typos throughout the document).

No mention of the $1,000/$3,000 limits in there however the section on what is not covered/how to void the warranty is massive. The only financial stipulation I can see is that "the most they will pay for the total of all claims made during the period of insurance is limited to the purchase price of the vehicle as declared on the policy schedule".
