If those of you are constantly just filling up at whichever servo is closest etc, try for a period of time to just fill up at the one servo and put in the one type of fuel, for me, BP Ultimate.

If you are still having soot related issues, I would potentially just have a friendly, more indepth chat with your service manager. Prcurrie's catalytic converter lunched itself and didn't show up with an emmisions worning light on the dash and that is one of the critical emmisions components.....
    +1 BP ultimate consistently

    +1 for BP Ultimate.

I brought a 2nd hand Aurion in 2008 and since have put 98 BP Ultimate in. All day every day I thrash the pants off that car, i dont get the best fuel economy obviously (hence the trade down to the Polo GTI), but every time i take it to Toyota for a service, the Engine report comes back as "astounding". Now this may just be Toyota/japanese engines, but i will surely be doing the BP Ultimate again in the GTI

I only use BP ultimate in mine and has the issue..... I did try a couple different servos but no difference.

it's not so bad after the rings were done but there are still black specks on the tailgate... before it was soot + oil so just keeping a close eye on it.

So 3000+ kms since noticing all the soot and it's still there and I've only been using BP Ultimate from the same servo.

Going to the dealer today to get the oil topped up so I may ask the question.....again....!

I always use Caltex 98 and I've had soot from day dot...back of the car is always filthy.

For those who are interested...I'm led to believe that most, if not all BP Ultimate in Melbourne comes from the Caltex Refinery in Altona.

There is a helpful guide I have followed these steps since driving!

You would be amazed that regardless of how many times fuel is boiled to remove crude and impurities there is a good kilogram of silt, contamination sitting at the bottom of the storage tank.

prcurrie, mate I would really be asking for something to be looked into because I can assure you, If you want to come take a look at my car it is currently filthy and has not been washed since march when i had the service done on it. In 3000+kms, no soot whatsoever on the back of my car.

Since new engine I have not had any soot *touch wood* only done a few hundred kms on it so its early days but this is using the same fuel, I'm fairly sure its not the fuel but somehow related to faulty oil burning engines!

Yeah I wouldn't call it soot on the back of mine because when you look up close it is actually little spots of oil that must get spat out the exhaust.
