Prices range from 5 euros for 1 hour all the way up to 3000 euros for a year.

Its quite cool what you can glean out of that system - everything from service manuals, to Technical Service Campaigns and so on.

    expensive to use, but

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I wonder about the value of Erwin...

as per my original post, I couldn't find any mention of the DSG campaign affecting me last June. I even called the dealer who said I would hear about it if it were to affect my car.

Low and behold, last week, bring in the car for an unrelated issue - and they tell me there is exactly this DSG recall that needs to be implemented.

    So, done, finally.

Oh, and new clutches and vent hose. All under warranty. Car drives like it should again. For now....

PS: Do NOT ask for the the lock/unlock "chirp" to be turned on, unless you like a blaring horn announcing you have locked or unlocked the car... learned that the hard way. Reverted!

Rob, it may not have initially been part of the campaign but due to the masses of mechatronic failures lately around the world it might have become a requirement to do it on vehicles produced before a certain date.

Interesting your clutches were done too, they were my first 2 symptoms....

They'll only do the cars they believe are affected within a certain build range and spec, and expand from there.

That may be true, but why didn't they call me in when the recall became more widespread?

So, gavs, you think the clutches were a symptom of mechatronic failure?

Wait a minute - are you saying I may be in for further problems? What happened to your car (despite the DSG upgrade and clutch replacement)?!?! I think I missed something... your new signature seems to suggest it, too... hmmm...

I thought you said, at one point, that the material for the clutches was simply found to be too soft... is there more to it?

The manufacturer will prioritise cars that are affected over those that could be, or will be affected.

yes, the clutch material is a bad choice and not necessarily linked to a defective mechatronics unit, however what you have probably read in my signature has come about because of the last 2 weeks after the valve in the mechatronics that controls clutch 1's actuation died.

I have spent the last 2 weeks tracking down people all over the world and with the use of google translate have learned quite a bit. Umai Naa!!, i'm sorry to say this but you are incorrect. I know where your information comes from and I respect that greatly however that is not the truth. I have spoken with an employee at the DSG assembly plant in Poland and he has told me that the reason 37g7 only applied to certain vehicles initially is due to the specific part numbered mechatronics unit being at risk of failure. This has also been confirmed through a leaked cpoy of the TPI that stated as to why the update was required and the effects if it was not done and the reason as to why it was required (sitting on a boat idle for 6 weeks....) Why they have now changed that can only lead me to believe this to be a kneejerk reaction to the recent release from VAG that all DSG equipped vehicles in China will have a 10 year warranty on the DSG now after ~50% of the 1,000,000 DSG equipped vehicle sold in china last year were returned to dealerships due to faults.

He has also told me that until a few months ago, they were looking at a reject rate of ~45-50% off all mechatronics units coming off the production line. Briliant quality control, or a flawed design that is just too difficult to get right unless you can invest the time to get it right, like in a $1.5million hypercar?

Rob, i don't want to worry you because you are still under warranty and if anything does go wrong, you should be covered no worries. Just make sure that if a tech tells you there is nothing wrong, I implore you -and all other VW owners with a DSG- to get it in writing, signed and dated.

Yeah sorry, I should've elabortated. What I was referring to is basically what you've remarked on regarding the part number of the Mechatronics unit.

And if they do tell you there is nothing wrong (like with me and my clutches) - go somewhere else. They're all full of it.....
