Depends on the trip
I had a loaner from my dealer with this in it. **** me to tears. I'd be disabling it permanently if I end up with it in a new car.
How does it impact the battery/starter if it's constantly kicking over on a longer term basis?

always disable mine. I figure the wear and tear on the equipment will outweigh any gains in fuel consumption.

All you have to do is lift your foot off the brake far enough to start the motor but not far enough to let the car move.
Have always done that with no detriment to anything. If you ease up to a stop gently you can stop without the motor stopping as well.

Works well in the manual. Dip the clutch up and it starts and your away. I quite like it. Dont think Ive turned it off once.
Both my Mk7 Golf and 2015 Impreza have the engine Stop/Start feature. Annoying at first, but a challenge worth pursuing to master the technique. Don't know how much fuel is saved.
Don't waste a day !

It absolutely causes more wear on the associated components. It will also flatten the battery if you don't drive regularly.
Stop/Start is fantastic! Lower emissions, saves the first owner fuel, then when it all goes wrong they can blame "modern technology" and charge you to fix it.
Have a manual 2015 Polo, no problem with Stop/Start. Once press clutch, the engine is back to life fairly quick. But sometimes, when I rolling the car in neutral from full stop, the engine picks up automatically once it can feel the speed change. Kind of reminding I reckon.
Yup learning it the hard way... Hence, keeping it manual mode in traffic jams n neck braking technique is only way gonna save the DSG...
