    Egr blanking

Can anyone give me advice on blanking the EGR on my 2011 TDI polo, can it be done?

You need the ECU tuning for the modification. You'll need to clear the fault and it will probably stay away if you allow some EGR. Try a 8-10mm hole in your blocking plate.

You cant just blank it off as the system sees no flow and puts engine light on...

    Spot on.

If the EGR is ECU-controlled, forget it. There's no cheap, simple remedy.

I'm not aware of any EGR-related issues with these engines, so not sure what there is to gain, to be honest.

Thanks guys, my polo, has just done 60k and the pipe was quiet dirty, does the 8-10mm hole stop most of this crap?

It should restrict the flow enough to reduce the clogging, but not enough that the ECU picks up on it.

Perhaps try it on the hot end of the pipe first, and see how you go.

System will prob still see low flow...I have changed quite a few of these newer egr valves that are part of the cooler on the back of the block...golf passat and polo have same egr/cooler combo unit....gets blocked in the valve....and one these sometimes puts it into limp home mode when fault occurs....

I think you are opening a can of worms by messing with the EGR. Other than minimising the flow setting using VAG-COM (can you still do that?) you may as well just remove the intake manifold and EGR valve every 100k and clean it out.
There are probably at least 20,000 posts on the subject on TDIclub.com, it's a problem modern diesels are stuck with until they further improve the removal of oil mist from the crankcase ventilation. People have tried a better filter, a Provent, but I'm not sure how well they work even though I was one of the first to install one 11 years ago, as the dealer smashed up my car at the first service. I fixed the problem by buying a petrol powered car.
