booked GTI in this week, no questions asked...although service said book it in for us to have a look at. I described the false neutral and shuddering of clutch, and also that after the recall done last week it quickly reverted back to normal (which he seemed to know about)

    keep you posted

had a call from another service advisor on the way home, confirming the details of booking and he also said they currently have 3 other polos in for mechatronics unit replacement. When I asked him how long willthey need the car he said they will just confirm that's what it is, and that mechatronics units are on backorder from Singapore...so it could be a while.

BTW gavs, is that what the problem is? I tried to explain that it feels like slipping clutches, but maybe they're housed in that unit?

    cheers

Nope, the clutches are in the "bell housing" of the gearbox. If its mechatronics then it won't be the clutch slipping feel you describe. Clutch slipping is clutch slipping. A good way to tell if it's clutch slip, find a low speed corner that you can roll into in 2nd gear (or whatever gear you find the vibration) with low rpms. Then drive out of the corner (make sure your gearbox is in D) with enough throttle to get some mid-range acceleration out of the corner, not slowly so the clutch can't slip but also not quick enough to drop down a gear. If you feel a shuddering as you are trying to accelerate away, more than likely it's the clutch, not the mechatronics unit.

I get this shuddering when I'm in D1 moving to D2 or D2 to D3. Never get it at any other gear it's basically after a speed hump when you slow down and accelerate again. That's how I can tell. I can't imagine though a year old car and the clutch is on it's way out. That's really really bad!

My car is going in tomorrow so hopefully I get some answers then. I'll post back what i hear!

That sound like both clutches are affected, mine was only the even gears clutch.

Ok awesome got a call back from the service guys and guess what my response was? Nothing

They have spent more then 2 hours checking my car and can't fault it for anything. I'm heading back there now to take one of the techs for a test drive to show them where this shuddering occurs!

    UPDATE.

I've taken the car for a test run with a tech and it was evident and they are now ordering the part for me and replacing the clutch. There are a couple of things it could be but as the tech was talking to me he mentioned that there is a known issue with the 7 gear DSG and have been dealing with it on both the Golf and Polo. They say it doesn't completely fix the problem but it will reduce the shuddering significantly.
