    DSG 7 Rattle

I recently purchased (2 weeks ago) a Polo tsi with a dsg7 gearbox,
Ever since the day i got it i noticed a rattle....

    a) when blipping the throttle sharply at idle
    b) the moment the engine cranks at startup
    c) when driving over rough roads at slow speeds

I am not alarmed as the dsg is covered under warranty.....but just curious

Did a little GOOGLE search and alot of owners have had the same rattle.......some dealers were not helpful and said "that is a normal operational sound"......

The good dealers said that it is caused by the dual mass flywheel and at worst can develop a crack over time and fail..........

Owners have then gone on to get the DMF (dual mass flywheel) replaced and problem solved.....

Has anyone on here have/had the same sound on their DSG7 gearbox??????

I get one too, although I would describe it more as a vibration that increases with increasing RPMs, then disappears at higher RPMs. Seems to be emanating from the base of the centre of the windscreen... Is this the same as what you guys are experiencing?

There is a rattle that is known to come from right hand side of the windscreen base, it's main cause seems to be the metal lines (fuel,a/c) rattling inside the rails of the cars structure, it's more or less a lack of sound deadening........

I have this rattle too and is noticeable around idle

This other rattle (dsg) is only present on sharp throttle inputs.......

I definately have a dsg rattle on rough roads (low speed), pretty noticable with the windows open too. Its been doing it from the very start, but because it is working perfect I'll just wait what happens over time

Yeh mine sounds similar to this. It doesnt sound like pipelines from deep within the car, but closer to the surface of the dashboard - in the centre / slightly right of the dash - near to the instrument display...more prominent when the car/dash is cold - so I think it's a plastic on plastic thing...

...not a big issues as it goes quickly so I'll wait till it's first due service to ask the dealer to check

All of you having the dsg issues, are you sure it's the dsg? Where is the sound coming from because the gearbox is mounted inside of the left wheel so if it's in the dash, it could be something else.

Also, the stealer who said a dual mass flywheel can crack is pulling himself because the purpose of the dual mass is to remove driveline shudder and to withstand higher torque loads, hence why most high-torque diesel engines now use them. The only reason it would crack is because of shoddy craftsmanship.
