Disconnect the MAF sensor, drive around for 5 minutes, reconnect MAF sensor. DONE!!!
Resetting it doesn't hurt and can sort out quite a few issues.
Or you can just run it and see how you go. Either way it will adapt.
Google has shown different opinions, some day a reset is required, some say the ECU learns, some say to disconnect battery etc.
Any thoughts?

Didn't reset mine, did notice a bit of a change over a couple of days, I assume that's the ecu adapting. In the end all good

Disconnecting your battery is your best bet of you feel you need to reset it but honestly I don't think you will need it.
Sure it might run too rich or too lean for a couple of days until the fuel trim is adjusted but it will adjust automatically.
What ever you do, do not disconect the MAF - or what you think is a MAF, because the reality is these motors have a MAP sensor which work much differently to a MAF: without it the car won't run properly or at all.
For one you will get a sh*t storm of error codes and it will go into limp home mode at a idle of 1200rpm and if you don't have VCDS its a trip down to the dealer for you
Whoa! Okay to be safe I won't do anything. I might just use the APR switch using the cruise control stock and change it to stock mode, drive it a bit ad switch back to 98 mode (stage 1 mode) and let it readjust like that.

For those who eventually may search the forums on this question or google it in the future.
I called APR Australia / Harding Performance, asked them:
1. I have a Polo GTI 6R
2. I have a Stage 1 APR tune
3. I bought a HP CAI second hand and had it installed, do I need a retune, an ECU reset, or do I need to set it back to stock etc, drive it and then go back to 98 mode?
His answer:
- No, just like the intercooler installation, the installation of the CAI will no require a retune or reset of the ECU, the ECU will eventually adapt. Just install and have fun.
Only the the full TBE exhaust requires a retune/stage 2 map.
Question answered!
