    Disabling Touch Adapter

    Hey everyone.
I know the horrid Touch Adapter has been brought up many a time, but I hadn't found the exact information I was looking for.
I have a late 2012 Polo 77TSI Comfortline that I had a 3rd party bluetooth module for music plugged in via the MDI, it was working surprisingly well until it looks like it died last week, errors of unsupported device. So I went and started my searching again as to what other options we have. After reading a few threads I kind of got the impression that if I get the adapter itself VCDS coded out I can direct all calls and music through the RCD310. Is that correct or does that only work if I have the RCD510??
I have found someone in Bris that can assist with the VCDS part of things. If someone knows the codes required.

I'm not sure I would want to spend the, up to $800 to put the RCD510/bluetooth in just to have music.

I also came across this unit on eBay (VW AUX Bluetooth Adapter autoradio auto 12pin Quadlock f RCD 210 RCD 300 RCD 310 | eBay) but wasn't sure if that would plug into where the MDI or 3.5mm AUX port was at the moment. I'd also came across the same unit but plugs in via MDI.

    Any help is appreciated.

There's no VCDS coding for the Touch Adaptor, as its not on CANbus. It's plug and play, so to speak.

There are a lot of threads about coding the VCDS to remove the Touch adapter.

Is the above thread talking about something different?

Oh right, that's the later one.

I've not had any experience with them, but as it's integrated into the dash cluster, it's highly likely you'll need to perform some coding adjustments to swap to another type of Bluetooth unit.

I think I may have caused some confusion.
I simply just want to use the bluetooth in the RCD310 for both calls and music rather than having to go through the Touch Adapter.
Just not sure if it's possible or if I would need to swap out the headunit for a RDC510 and bluetooth unit.

The touch adapter cannot be removed unless upgrading to the RCD510 as a minimum.

Once the adapter is removed, you will only have Bluetooth audio functionality through the RCD310.

The mic does still exist (in the light cluster above your head), but requires the RCD510 to process the phone calls and act as a host. The RCD310 does not have the functionality to act as a host, hence the purpose of the touch adapter.

Your bluetooth module will be seperate and under your seat, so the 310 to 510 should be a straight swap + the touch adapter code out.

Or another option to you is to purchase an aftermarket head unit with bluetooth built in, the mic's in these are sometimes internal or external, you will also have further functionality of devices and being able to plug devices in via. USB instead of that ridiculous MDI.

The cost of an RCD510 and full aftermarket setup can be approximately the same depending on the brand/unit. I recently did a Pioneer setup with RVC, external mic, sold my Bluetooth module and RCD510, ended up profiting $100 from the original cost.

Thank you LukePolo, exact answer I was after.
I guess I will just have to put up with the crappy setup for now until I can justify the expense.

Funnily enough the 3rd Bluetooth module I had plugged in via the MDI started working again today after plugging in and old ipod.
The Tune2Air unit has worked really well as a stop gap, steering wheel controls work and if you have an iphone it show track info.

I have the Bury system 9 dock in my 2013 Polo 1.2Tsi along with the RCD310. And what your saying is that the only benefit with this is that i can connect my phone via Bluetooth and play music trough it, but if i want to make/recieve calls i will have to upgrade the unit to a RCD510? If i choose to do so, will it work automaticly or will i have to do any coding?

    That is correct.

The unit will work automatically, but to enable to phone functionality the car will need to be told to stop trying to connect the 9W7 bluetooth module to the touch adapter. This will involve coding the touch adapter out.

Thank you for the reply! The thing is that my car didnt come with the touch adapter, but with a bury iPhone 5 cradle. Could it be that the touch adapter is already coded out?
