Angry did/do you run in your new polo?

i picked up my brand new 77tsi polo the other day and the dealer told me there's no need to run it in as its been done at the shop before been put into the car or something and i can flog it from word go once its warmed up.

yet i read my manual and it says must run in the car untill at least 1500 k's

i have actually had a few dealers/service people tell me no need to run it in.

    what the?

anyway did you run yours in? or did you flog it?

I was rather spirited with mine from day 1. Only issue I have had was a fault wire on a sensor.

No redlining but very careful not to go easy on it either. Stop start driving is worst for it.

Drove it at varying speeds along the freeway for 15 minutes, then hammered the accelerator and the brake pedals bedding brakes in. After that just drive how I feel. I'd have driven it harder earlier if I could have but roads and traffic didnt allow it.

Seriously man, please use search. This has been asked and covered dozens of times.

Run the car when you pick it up however you want. Engines are pre run at the factory before and after fitting to their respective cars so it's not like when you get in it it's the first time it's been run.

All I will say is that the old schools of thought (don't redline it, don't go over 1500rpm for the first 1000kms, drop the oil at 1000kms) is all crap. There are no special run-in oils, no rules about babying the engine, no mineral blend that gets changed for fully synthetic....

Oh, important side note. If the engine isn't allowed to redline during the bed in process, you can actually develop a small, microscopic lip in the bore that can destroy piston rings over time.

    Thread locked.
