    FYI

I had my car brought back to VW yesterday with the same issue: misfiring in the fourth cylinder.

I have been in contact with Fair Trading, who advised to wait and see what is done during this service. If it is the same fix that was done the previous 3 times (spark plug and coil back replacement), I will complain to the dealership for a replacement/refund as they do not know how to fix the issue. If that fails, I have been advised to raise a complaint through the Fair Trading website so they can get in contact with the dealer.

I will be drafting a letter to VAG to voice my concerns tonight.

This is just so sad because the car is so good when it works..... Driving a loan Golf TSI wagon at the moment, lets hope I lasts long enough to get my Polo back.

I recently had similar problems, both engine light and EPC light came on (there's a post here somewhere...)
after having the car for a week, i was finally told engine would be replaced under wty. It also meant I could give them back the Micra loan car and got a VW Golf through Europcar at no cost, pending completion of replacement engine.
Follow up during this time from both dealer and VAG was poor, to put it mildly.
VAG rang me twice, once to say the "part" had arrived and was being fitted, car should be ready by end of week. Seond time to say car was ready (even though it was almost a week later than originally suggested).
Got a new engine (and battery while they were at it), and when i picked up car (after standing around looking stupid for half an hour) was told just to make sure i put the right fuel in...
It's my third VW (Golf, Tiguan, GTI) and am unlikely to return to VW after the very poor service and follow up, just waiting for the email feedback response to come.
    BTW, when VAG rang me the last time, the lady said: We're also happy to receive any good feedback", I said nothing, but should have said: And I'm happy to provide it when i receive good service....(-;
    cheers

Hey Tigga, was the replacement engine a CAV or CTH?

    Just something to note.

Make sure you are very specific as to the problems and the attempts to resolve it,

    AND

make it very clear as to what you want done.

If you are not absolutely specific, the letter will be taken as "for information only" and nothing will be done.

To make sure that VW global HQ know about it, CC the letter and make sure that the both parties know the other has been notified as well.

am happy to have a look if it's a simple code or something...I did ask the mechanic, but he was not very forthcoming...

On the passenger side, just on the bottom right hand corner - there should be a placard which has the vin number, colour code, engine model and number and other car related stuff

Actually, forgot to say car is nearly 2 years old (build date around may/june 2011) and had done just over 39K when this happened.
I am assuming it was the CAV engine and that they replaced it with same...or can they replace with CTH?
BTW, could not find anything on passenger side...

I wouldn't think they would replace the whole engine. Most likely just replace piston rings.

It depends. The labour is the killer, and it might be cheaper to do a straight swap rather than try and fix it and introduce the potential for even more problems.

If you still have your purchase papers its all on them

Or even a service sheet Mine has it all on it as well Otherwise look on the passenger B pillar or in the boot in front of the spare
