Update:

Just got in contact with VW service, and they advised the spark plug had failed AGAIN, they replaced it, and it working as normal.

How on earth can 3 spark plugs fail in the SAME cylinder within one month.There is obviously an underlying issue, that they are not looking into.

I am getting in contact with their customer service division now.

It is failing because of oil fouling the spark plug. If you get an independant compression test done on the car, I gurantee the compression will be down on the same cylinder, indicating the engine needs a rebuild.

Then get an emissions test done and tell vw you are going to the media

This is exactly what I have been saying for quite a while.
There are a lot of people complaining but very few are doing anything constructive.
Get 10 people together with independant reports and then go straight to the media.
These arrogant arseholes need to be taught a lesson.

Yeah, that's what I thought. It's easy for you to say, when you don't have the issue to deal with. I realize you have a stake in this issue, since you will probably want to sell the car at some point.

But...

It's easier and less time consuming - and cheaper, for now - for someone like me to just suck it up and check the oil at every fill and top up when necessary. It takes 2 minutes to do per fill, and costs about $75 over 10000km. (My $75 5 litre bottle of Shell Helix Ultra Extra lasts 10 000 km).

How much would an independent assessment cost? (Not counting the lost time...) And that's just the beginning! If the assessment showed a problem, well, then there's all that to-ing and fro-ing with the dealer, then with the tribunals, etc, etc, etc.

Clearly, this is what VW is counting on. So, as far as I'm concerned, I'm stuck.

I, too, will applaud the ones who can afford to get it done!

(If I was in Zakarados's shoes - well, that's a whole other story... legitimate claim, for sure)

How does, how they treat you, make your engine use less oil or not to break down? It just doesn't make a sence.

Thumbnail calculation based on how long it takes to do the work. A compression test takes less than an hour unless the mechanic is incompetent, and an emissions test takes less than an hour. Having said that with the amount of criminals in the motor industry it would not shock me if the prices were double those mentioned.

At the moment VW are screwing me with regards to a refund on the holding deposit I placed on the car. I have raised an official complaint to the relevant government body. I should know in a couple of days what is happening.

Mechanically there is nothing wrong with the car so I am lucky so far, not to have suffered the BS some of the people here have gone through

It doesn't matter who I am.
In VIC, everytime you sell a car it needs to get a roadworthy. Part of the inspection is an emissions test, and a roadworthy did not cost more than $200 the last time I got one, so the emissions test could not have cost more than $150.

Don't be offended by what I say, some of my best mates are mechanics, everything from motorcycle to truck, to helicopter mechanics. I just personally inspect and report on a lot of mechanical failures due to fark ups, laziness, or incompetence.

I can't stand watching people getting BSed too, and am starting to get pissed off.

EDIT: The point I was trying to make was not how much emissions testing should cost, but to encourage people to at least enquire about it and take action against VW.
