I can see where both arguments are coming from and respect each side, although my experience with dealers and VGA was not a pleasant one, so I guess I am a little biased
Would be interesting though for Serge to indicate a price on the cars he is offering....will it be RRP or MORE I don't think it is a state secret, so in future, any dealer that advertises on this forum should publish their prices. Hey, it's only fair

The "price" varies depending on what state the person is in, their post code (in applicable states), their age (in applicable states) and even driving history (in applicable states). Therefore it's not possible to correctly list what the drive away price would be.

All they can do is tell you what the RRP price of the base car + options is, which you should already know anyway...
Then when an interested party contacts them, they can then figure out what the "drive away price" for that individual is.
They can then obviously negotiate the final sale price from there.

None of which, is appropriate for posting in a public forum...

Very well then, let them list the RRP, because I can tell you, most dealers will quote a higher price as seen on carsales recently. This supply and demand crap will continue, so whatever state Serge is in, let him quote a RRP for his state and I can bet there will be no negotiation on price. Don't get me wrong, these advertisements are useful, but they target people who are desperate, can't wait and want to pay really top dollar for a VW

I think that's being a bit oversensitive. If Serge has stock I don't blame him trying to sell them.

And I think this is the problem at the end of the day and the bit I don't understand. Manufacturing isn't some random last minute thing. I don't quite understand why VW Group globally don't have this whole thing under control and thus they know what allocations they have at a minimum and thus dealers and the end customers (ie. the people handing over their money) have a better idea of what's going on.

They do know allocations, but when factories are running at maximum capacity and like Serge said, the people who order first get their cars first.

The issue originally was that VGA were bringing in cars for dealers that hadn't actually been sold yet, they had no customer name against them. As we can see now, this in now dwindling away as customer allocated cars are now going through the production line.

So, why don't they tell the dealers up front and in advance?

Again... you seem to think that there is a company in the world that can accurately determine what customers WILL do, where and when?

themmc, you are being completely unreasonable in your comments.
This is NOT a situation where they have plenty of production capacity and they can estimate customer demand and send x number of cars to each dealership so that there is stock on hand. This is a situation where the customer demand is far outstripping the production capacity and so each month they are looking at the ORDERS THAT HAVE BEEN PLACED and allocating stock in the fairest method they can come up with. This means not giving every single order to their biggest dealers, and at the same time, it means not giving cars to smaller dealers who may not have had a customer order.

Now expand that concept from Australia, to every country in the world that gets the Polo - with each country fighting to get as much allocation as they can to fill orders etc.

They used to tell dealers and allocate stock in advance - but that was part of the problem for wait times blowing out - as you'd have dealers with several unallocated cars, and other dealers with several customers with no car allocation.

I mean seriously mate... if you can't handle the wait, make a compromise and swap for a car in stock somewhere, or buy another car which you don't have to wait for. Or stop coming on the internet and making yourself angsty by reading about all these delays, and all the people who have already taken delivery!

They do, they generally get 2-3 months notice in advance, they don't tell them 8 months in advance for a very good reason, THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN. What if suddenly the DSG plant in china blows up or Bosch have a chemical spill that shuts the plant for a week? These things can all cause unforseen issues with production, hell, the factory that builds the Twincharger engine ran out of parts in january so thay couldn't produce engines and guess what, you can't build engines, you cant build cars, so they send other vehicles down the production line instead to make sure the workers still have something to do.

Look, I've had my fair share of issue with VAG in regards to my polo too and the dealership and VGA especially but I think that you have become so embroiled within your own rage regarding this that you are unwilling to listen to reason. You want to blame someone? Blame the other 50 people infront of you in the queue for buying world car of the year, hell, blame the damn journos who awarded the polo Car of the year, it's their fault really because if they didn't award it, then people wouldn't be rushing to buy it.

    So, it's pretty straightforward.

They're selling at or above manufacturing capacity. They're already behind in orders so they have a clear understanding of how their capacity is going to be used quite a way in advance as it's all allocated. The deltas between planned and actual are going to be fairly small because of this. It's straightforward stuff out of text books about how to plan manufacturing. Look up things like MRPII/CP etc.

Chill out Corey. I come here looking for answers and information. In order to do that there needs to be open discussion not a clamp down on it.
