I wonder how long it will be as i ordered in early jan of a basic white and no extras.
Originally i was told in may as i do expect some delays. After listening to you guys perhaps it gives me hope that it wont be sept or end of year.
IMO VAG wouldn't be in this situation if they just build cars to a set of specs instead of allowing customers to customise the cars.
They should build cars like the Japanese do. Have a basic model with no options, a mid tier model with a limited number of options and a luxury model with all options built in.
This would simplify their production line and allow them to build cars and stockpile them ready to ship out.

IMO the number of options is very limited as it is.
2011 Polo GTI - I have it, I Love It!!!!
Candy White 5 Door, Comfort Pack, Audio Pack - RCD 510, Bi-Xenons, Panoramic Sunroof
You dont get it. Calculate ALL the permutations of 3/5 door, 5 colours, then
1. Comfort pack
2. Audio
3. Sunroof
4. Xenons
5. Suede trim
Thats a HUGE number of combinations and means that VW would be cautious about shipping standard cars out in significant numbers.
VW should make the comfortpack standard or ditch it.
Audio upgrade could be ditched or make a dealer fit.
but the available options is one of the many reasons i love Vdubs... get to pick and choose exactly what i want in the car and not have to settle for what they have chosen for me etc
1974 1300 Beetle, 1997 Golf GL, 2003 New Beetle Cabrio, 2014 Audi A4 quattro
I do actually get it. My comment was relative to other vehicles such as the MINI that I currently drive. The permutations for options on it is way greater than that of the Polo.

Being able to offer customisation would be good only if their manufacturing infrastructure was efficient enough to deliver the customised cars on time and on spec.
We've all read stories of customers having their wait times extended (6mths or more) and some receiving cars with an option missing or added. We've also read of customers cancelling orders because of the wait and people who would've liked to own a VW but couldn't wait 6mths for them. So their current system isn't really working.
To have to wait 2 years (if ordered today) & pay a hefty premium for a limited edition supercar I can understand but a VW Polo GTI...? One would be mad to do so.

this is all assuming that mistakes on options are made by the factory (and not the dealer entering the car config into the systems) and that the handling of options does cause any delay.
the biggest delay in the first batch of R's was the DSG gearbox, not any of the options...
