I really just hope that this is a lame excuse from your dealership because they can't get an answer out of VWA....
Hey Gav, I FEEL you pain man. But lets not get our GTIs in a knot. I called VWA to clarify this latest RUMOUR. They categorically said that there are no delays with the people in our order status, can we trust them? my rule of Mulders thumb is "Trust No One' I guess we will have to on this front According to our NADCON screen dumps the orders should hit Production next week....ohhhhh ssoooo clooosssse!

My biggest beef is with the dealer phoning VWA when the car was ordered, getting a week 9 build 'guaranteed' and now when I request the details, finding I've been 'moved' to a week 14 that 'may' become week 25! If the car's not built untill June/July, then September may dissapear as well. To quote that famous yellow pages add :NOT HAPPY JAN

I will mention that the dealer was pretty damn angry with having to tell me the updated delivery. He wasn't happy at all with the time delays affecting his customers.

I'm very happy with the dealer and get information when I ask for it, but VWA is another story.

was told that if i wanted options it would likely be put back further...till Oct-Dec 11
And I trust this man, have bought 2 previous VWs from them...

expected del date Jul 11, but was told likely to be bit earlier...May/June...

I don't want to start a big argument here, but I find it hard to believe that VGA (Volkswagen Group Australia... there is no such thing as VWA), would actually use the word "guaranteed" for something that they know is anything but.

VGA do not control the factory, nor any of the part suppliers. Build slots are allocated, and then they are moved around all the time for many reasons. Some such reasons may be to optimise the output of cars from the factory based on current and expected parts, and often even more so, optional parts supplies.

On the other hand, we constantly hear dealers use words that they shouldn't. Some are just being naughty. Some are trying to reassure their frustrated/anxious/nervous/whatever customers and end up using a word which isn't the most suitable and end up getting burnt.

Either way. As I've probably said 100 times in various threads: All dates provided are ESTIMATES. Dates WILL CHANGE. Not maybe, WILL. Your build date won't be "correct" and "fixed" until the week it goes into production and chassis/vin/production numbers appear in NADCON. And then, all the other days after the production date WILL continue to change, as Volkswagen don't control the train/shipping/ports/quarantine/customs/trucking/compliance/3rd party-predelivery companies either. They also don't control God, which means they can't plan the weather, which can affect numerous of the previous mentiond companies/stages.

Dealers are well aware of these facts too (well, any salesman who has been with the dealership long enough to follow a car from order to delivery). Any of the forum members who've ordered a car or two from a manufacturer who does factory orders and allows their customers access to some of this data, such as VW, Audi, BMW etc.

In any case, I guess it's easier to be frustrated with some faceless figure than someone you need to deal with in person

Now also major delays for Polo TSI. Placed an order JAN with a friend of mine who is a dealer. Trust him 100%. Tells me some delays but expect it in May/June, tells me delays with GTI now till 2012 for some. 2nd week in Feb based on feedback from VGA car is about to go into build. This week VGA updated him, delays and it may not be until Dec 2011. How can VGA keep changing their story so dramatically from week to week!!!

I'm with you all! What happens to the people like me who ordered December 2010 and have now been pushed back to 2012. Not only do i have to wait more than one year for a freakin hatchback (albeit an awesome one), but I've just realised if i end up getting it in Q1 2012, i'm going to get a 2011 model and 10 bucks says VW won't compensate me for. That again, is assuming I get a Q1 2012 delivery.. at this rate i'll probably end up getting it sometime around next christmas!! I think if you've been pushed back more than 3 months from an already ridiculous 6 month initial delivery date, you should go back and renegotiate your price. VGA/Germany are the ones who are f**king up here, not us, not the dealers... therefore its them, and not us that should be penalised by their incompetence.

The brain is telling me to just cut my losses, cancel my order and never deal with VW again. They may have good cars but customer service is a joke. When you're blowing any amount of money, the service you get can make or break a deal. However, the heart is telling me to put my faith in VGA and that they'll surprise me and have my gti here at some stage in 2011.

If i want to get any other cars that are even remotely similar to a polo gti (premium sporty-esque automatic hatch, fuel efficient, ability to option up, not a snail), i'm looking at least another $10 - 15k step up to a decent spec-ed A1, C30 R Design, Cooper S or CT200h. They all have downfalls that the polo doesnt have; A1 : too slow, close to $50k with decent specs; C30: getting on in age, thirsty; Cooper S: too common, too expensive; and CT200h: derivative styling, only base model within price range. I wish alfa, citroen and renault would hurry up and develop decent automatic gearboxes for the giulietta, ds3 and RS250! Actually saw pics of the new DS4.. looks awesome but unlikely in Australia till mid 2012.

    Good luck everyone!

hum your stuck between a rock and a hard place, if it was me personally i'd say stuff it and move on, but move onto what i am also unsure of, the only thing that comes to mind is a downgrade to a non GTI polo or golf DSG 4 door?

I feel so lucky when I read stories like this. Around 4 weeks it took me to be sitting in my car from ordering it, in the exact colour and specs I wanted.
