Watch out for demos. They need to be priced like used cars, however many are priced to look like bargains, but are not.

Also remember there is stamp duty payable on transfer of registration, and you also miss out on things like discounts for "drive away" registration. This is where the insurer pays the dealer for offering a drive away package because most people do not change CTP insurers given that CTP is regulated. You might also be eligible for other discounts on new cars, but not on demos or second hand ones.

And they are not as attractive for a novated lease.

Hi everyone. Joined this forum to see what I can do about my situation. I ordered my Polo Gti in Feburary 2011 and was promised that I would receive sometime in November. The contract states that my car will arrive in the 2011 year. However a few months back, the dealer called me and said that it was delayed until December. My car was assembled early October and would be shipped as soon as possible. The dealer then called me again saying that since my car was arriving in December, that if I held off until January, my car would receive a 2012 compliance plate which would make it a 'newer' car even though its a 2011 model I think? Anyways I agreed and waited. Now that my car is not far off , I decided to call up Volkswagen today just because I was curious as to where it was. They told me that the car was still sitting somewhere in Germany waiting to be shipped. So unless I'm missing something , the dealer has lied to my face because he couldnt deliver the car by 2011. I've already waited 10 months for this car, so I'm not going to cancel the contract, but what options do I have?

Either under contract or pursuant to the Australian Consumer Law you may well be entitled to terminate your contract (which in any event you do not want to do) or recover any loss which you can prove that you have suffered by reason of the delay in delivery (which I suspect is unlikely). And of course you would likely have to pay a lawyer $500+ hr which would just add further insult to injury.

So I guess you suck it up and continue to obsessively check the forum threads, fantasize about running it in along Indian Ocean Drive or perhaps a quick blat up through the hills to the Mundaring Weir Hotel, think about all the mods you might make with the money you didn't spend on lawyers and console yourself that the 2012 model includes some features that (hopefully) you didn't pay for....

So, to add insult to injury you will be getting a 2011 build car delivered in 2012. I'd have a stern word to your dealer principal and see what can be arranged. What options did you order?

Scarecrow, unfortunately I think you're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Unfortunatley, unless your communication was through email, there is probably nothing you can do if you take it to consumer law. Verbal contracts are all well and good, but as many of us have found, a vw sales person's word is worth nothing and if confronted, will deny it anyway. Just take your car, enjoy it and find another dealership to deal with for servicing:)

It just so happens that I have communicated via email several times, stating delivery as November initially and later as "on track for the end of the year". What would be the best approach to deal with this? Letter? Rage over the phone?

The worst part is the dealer is unlikely to give two hoots if you cancel because some other mug will pay full retail the next day. I nearly did a similar thing to you but decided against.

Interestingly, I was at Barlowworld Fivedock about 6 weeks ago and the dealer showed me their screen. They had a backlog of ordered Polo Gti's and the status of the Polo Gtis ordered in late January was exactly the same as those ordered in October - ie. absolutely no progress.
