Damp Carpets From Water In Driver Side Rear Footwell

Happened after last week during heavy rain period in Sydney, I noticed a musty odor when i got into my car in the morning(car is always garaged). Did not realise until a few days later that I found the mat in the foot well behind the driver seat only had soaked through to the carpet floor. Running my finger through the feet aircon duct I found that the insulation is soaked (underneath the carpet). I did a number of things to dry it since and its dried the carpet, but still smells, and the insulation underneath is wet and now a breeding ground for mold. Im going to raise this with my dealer under warranty but am curious to know if anyone else had this problem? Where is it coming from? Note that its only one side - footwell behind the drivers seat.

    Cheers

Mk4 golfs had an inherent issue that when the drainage points for the sunroof got clogged, the water will not drain and end up pooling in the footwell areas of the car. Seeing as the polo has a sunroof that takes up 3/4 of the roof, you would want much better drainage. Seems this might not have been rectified over 15 years since this problem started. For the record, my Hilux surf had a factory fitted sunroof and was parked under trees a good 90% of it's life and the sunroof always drained properley so it's not an impossible feat to do it correctly...

Send me a PM with oyur email address, I'll try and find in the service manuals on how to clear the drain holes, but don't do it until you get the car checked for warranty.

Aftermarket tint can be an issue too. I had a problem with my 325i where the weather shield on the doors wasn't glued back on properly so water would trickle through the doors from the windows
