A couple of questions from a new Polo owner

    Hi guys,

Picked up the wife's new MY12.5 Polo 77TSI last Friday. Came with comfort and sports packs and we also got the mats.

Just a couple of quick questions, im a golf owner (own a MKV GTI) and was wondering if there was anyway to turn on any of the features I love with my golf on the polo? The two that spring to mind are the auto locking of doors when moving and also the "follow me home" headlight feature.

Any info welcome, but also understand if these cars dont support such features (knew the price difference had to be for something).

The auto lights (coming home / leaving home) cannot be activated on the polo because they do not come with the euro "Auto" switch as standard. You can retrofit one but that is up to you.

With the auto locking doors because you have a 77TSI (like me) there is no MFD so you cannot change things from within the car, meaning it can only be activated through VCDS with a cable or at the dealer, though it is an easy process. If you have a VCDS cable the option is under Cent. Electrics 2.

You can specify to lock on gear selector change to D or take off above 15km/h and unlock upon gear selector change to P or key removal. (I think there is a few other options that I cannot remember right now)

    Hope that helps!

Thank you very much for your reply. It was indeed helpful. I was hoping there was one of the key combinations (as i have found a few on the net) that can activate it. However, I will ask the dealer to do it next time we are there.. i wonder how much they will charge me... Has anyone done this before?

The auto lights would be great, but a bit more reading leads me to believe that you cannot do it without the Bi-Xenon lights. As such, im not sure retro fitting one would solve it.

    Thanks again for the reply!

Oh sorry yeah forgot to add that the "Auto" headlights requires the comfort pack (which you optioned on the 77tsi and comes standard with the Xenons on the GTI) this is because the comfort pack comes with the light and rain sensor. Also I was told that they can (SHOULD) change the settings for free but knowing VW service dealers many are pricks and will charge. If you want then get a VCDS cable from OBDChina.com for $30 and do it yourself. The other option you can do is disable the DRL if you don't like them but then again I think some of the DRL functionality is hard wired in.

Your correct you can only upgrade your headlight switch to the auto version if you have bi xenons.

Yes sadly the auto-lights + CH/LH are a Xenon only affair. There's a bunch of options you can activate, like driver door then rest unlocking, your 10KM/hr locking, unlocking when taking out the key, horn on locking (very loud!)and making the voice activation button on the steering wheel a mute button. There's a bunch of others but I always forget them when they're not in front on me on VCDS.

You can also replace the BT touch unit with a phone specific cradle which boosts its reception and charges it.

Oh and you can make the steering heavier or lighter.

Thanks for all the replies guys, really appreciate it.

From what I can tell what im after is the locking after 15km/h and the unlocking when the key is removed from the ignition (so its the same as my golf). Horn when locking / unlocking does not sound appealing.. my neighbours would shoot me.

Shame about the CH/LH lights, i really love that feature. Another surprise I got was when I realised the MFD doesnt display which door is open on the car (which is a feature I have really grown to love to have since having kids).

Other than that really rather happy with the car. Love the sound of having the ability to turn these things on myself via VCDS, but from what i can see the basic version to buy is like $300? Also is there any danger of damaging the car? Never heard of someone 'bricking' a car, but im sure its possible.

The GTI has the more advanced MFD+ screen you see in the Golfs, sadly no factory option gets you it in the 77Tsi (You can retrofit it for like, $600 Polo 6R Instrument Cluster MFA+ GTI 280 km/h - GASOLINE )

It's really hard to hurt anything in the car, just stay away from the airbags and abs and you should be fine. There's a bunch of people with VCDS cables already willing to help on this forum. You/They do need the more expensive HEX+CAN cable for the Polo though.
