Countless Issues - So long Polo....

    Hey all,

After what has been pretty much 3 years of owning a lemon, I have decided it's probably time to sell up. The latest issue was loss of compression in one of the cylinders and a complete loss of power.

Currently under review by VW Australia as my car is out of warranty.

My list of issues so far:

    - Incorrect steering wheel fitted at delivery (it boggles the mind how this is even possible)

    - High oil consumption (first piston rings changed and then full engine rebuild). I took the car back to the dealership so many times for this it was bordering on ridiculous.

    - Clutch failure (replaced)

    - Dealership snapping the ECU mounting bracket during the engine rebuild and then just cable tieing it back on thinking I wouldn't notice. This took months to get resolved even though it was their ****up.

    - Mechatronics unit failure (replaced)

    - Steering rack bolt sheered causing the car to pull hard to the left (replaced)

    - Loss of compression in one of the cylinders. This happened 20kms out of Newcastle (I live in Sydney).

This car has been nothing but a pain in my ass since the first day I have had it, and I mean literally the first day.

I have tried to get in contact with VW about it but have never heard anything back, so it's probably time I just cut my losses and moved on.

It boggles the mind that after everything I will be the one who loses out even though I've done nothing wrong.

    Regards,

    Sad Polo GTI owner.

A steering wheel with no multifunction controls.

They put some weird mesh in the area where the controls should have been.

    That's totally ludicrous!

Considering it was one of the first GTIs Im guessing it was an error at the factory, it's an option in a few countries.

Why did you not seek recourse with the ACCC once you started noticing substantive issues?

    Agreed. Unacceptable.

I got shot of mine after it's third accelerator failing...push to go, but it just drifted out into traffic. Dealer was supportive, but issue was intermittent.

Got a golf, and touch wood. All's good. I have resolved not to buy a new model vehicle for at least 12 months, to let the initial lemons and learn-as-we-go VW mentality take its toll on someone else.

Sorry to hear this mate. For the few that have no issues, the Polo GTI is a brilliant car. But for some, it's a frustrating lemon.

I got a Polo Gti My13.5 CTHE; bought the car with 7000kms on it..I did another 2000kms on top of it and Im one of those unfortunate people with high oil consumption issues. Only had the used Polo Gti for more than a month but i have to go back to the dealer twice for an oil top up. Doing 1000kms consumption test at the moment. Alot of dry soots on my rear as well..

    Pretty disappointed with my purchased..
Anyone else with the same oil consumption issues with Polo Gti MY13.5 model?
