He then went on to say that the latest from VW they have today is that all orders for 1st quarter production are finalised and orders from now on will probably be delivered in August or later.

My order made it into the system in time for the May delivery, and as it's white with the comfort pack, they may get it earlier from a 'stock' build, but best date for that was still April.
My experience concurs with this - ordered Dec 30th and the dealer is using a Week 9 of 2011 slot they had for my car and modifying the spec to suit. Annoyingly delivery/logistics from South Africa take 12-15 weeks. Seems like a long time as I've had cars built and delivered from Europe (Peugeots) in less time. If I'd wanted no options I'd have a car now.

I was going to say, how come yours is coming quicker, then I noticed yours is a comfortline model, hence why South Africa!
Apparently the 3 door GTi comes out of Spain and 5 door out of Germany, not sure on that though...

Had some for lunch. Yumm! (Hot cross buns, not GTi's, that would be difficult)

I don't really care what mine comes from, as long as I get it on time! Actually.... From the problems with the last model Golf from there, I'll be happy if the 5door GTi is Geman made - the new Golf is nicely put together.

Me too, from experience at work, D40 navaras from spain are built so badly, we had to redesign the frontal protection to meet all the variation in their manufacturing tolerances!!
I'd much rather pay $2k more for a German built car!!

Congratulations, sounds like the Polo GTI I ordered then cancelled through Bayford Epping back in September last year. Interesting that they still had my order still available, considering they insisted that they had an immediate buyer for this vehicle back in early december 2010. Goes to show that Bayford Epping cannot be trusted. And, BTW, it was more than an unpleasant experience. Glad you had a more positive experience than me, perhaps through my post they have changed their ways of doing business. For the record, I sincerely hope that you are not an employee of Bayford trying to limit damage control.

It may be because I'm a little bitter over my experience with Volkswagen (mainly because they lie more often than Charlie Sheen to his Spouse).... BUT....

Everytime I see the title of this thread I read 'IT is coming..... And so is Christmas'.

Yeah, that was me. I think that judging by the sheer demand for these cars, even if they didn;'t have a buyer, the order would still stand as they would still be ale to move it very quickly, as it evidently did! Sorry to put a positive spin on your bad experience Joe, but if they hadn't cocked up with your order and you cancelled, I'd now be like all others that are waiting until late next year!

Oh, and for the record, no, I don't work for them!

At one of my local dealerships today and asked him where the Polo GTI was being built.
He thought both 3 and 5 dr were manufactured in South Africa and that no Polos were being built in Germany? Wasn't 100% sure though

Test drove two Polos back to back this arvo.
77TSI DSG with optional sports pack brand new off the lot, then their 3 dr GTI stock standard.
Felt both had their + and - as all cars do, but great opportunity to be able to do this due to lack of Polos right now and in particular any with the optional sports pack for example re: Polo Comfortline.
Both are great little cars BTW

Wanted to get straight up answers on the ETA of the GTI and as we have been dealing with the assistant manager from day one of test drives I felt he would be up front and tell it to us straight.

He made a call in our presence and the news was he doesn't know how long.
He said there are no production dates for the GTI right now from VW and best he could suggest is for us to give him a call in a month and see if they have any more news then, or sign up for one with the understanding that it will come ????????

This is on orders placed now for the ‘GTI' (with or without options) didn't matter right now
This news did not relate to other Polo models as we were more interest in the GTI.
So this is pretty much the same news we have had from both our local dealerships and at least they are being pretty up front AFAIK

We may have to look outside the VW stable or at least test drive something else.....nothing springs to mind that is of interest right now...... we were mentally prepared for up to 6 mths (hoped that was being realistic) but beyond that time frame my patience will be wearing pretty thin I reckon, so now logic verses want starts to kick in Grrr!

Optional extras were possibly bi xenons , leatherette, comfort & audio. Still pondering on this
