Thread: Coilover/shortened drop link noise.

    Coilover/shortened drop link noise.

Hi, was just wondering if anyone on the forum has had bother with lots of rattling/squeaking noises after fitting coilovers to their 6r?

I had a set of brand new FK coilovers fitted last week, along with a set of shortened drop links. And since then my car has done nothing but rattle and squeak. Has anyone else had these problems? What did you do to remedy them? Or is it something I just have to live with if I'm using coilovers?

I know its a long shot, but any ideas??

    Davie.

It may or may not be relevant, I have KWV3 coilovers on my R32 with camber top plates fitted. I don't have shortened links and don't have unusual noises or rattles. Replacing cast iron front end parts with alloy parts did give better compliance.

Hmm, wondering if its because I've used aftermarket drop links now...

Thinking about some powerflex bushes, to see if i can get rid of the noises that way. Top mount, struts, anti role bar bushes etc. Although that brings me on to my next question. Does anyone know the diameter needed for the polo 6r gti?? There's actually a huge selection I've no idea where to start.

Measure the diameter of the roll bar with verniers. Disconnect the roll bar and secure it, then do a trip around the block to see if the noises have gone. Does the rattle go away when you use the brakes? It could be the pads rattling in the calipers.

    Problem fixed!

Turns out the bolt on the top and bottom of the new shortened drop links had become loose after a short period of driving and required tightening up. The rattle is now gone! But, I've also been advised to switch back to the original manufacturers drop links as there doesn't seem to be any better off with them. Anyone else been told that before??

Plan is now to go ahead and book in the stage one revo remap. Been advised to change to NGK Iridium plugs, I have the part number, however I'm not sure how many I should be buying from eBay.

Can anyone advise how many spark plugs I need? It's a 2010 1.4 Gti twin charged.
