I filed 2 surfaces on a 22 and used a deep Allen key as u say. I have never torqued them up past 'yep, that ain't going anywhere', I periodically checked them but they didn't move. A dab of locktite and it's all good.
Not sure if you can enlighten me on this?
The original VW nut holding the front strut piston rod is 21mm A/F. This is a self locking galvanised? flange nut.(no spring washer)
The Koni supplied nut is zinc coated 22mm A/F and comes with a spring washer.
Is there any reason why I could not use a new original VW nut. Makes tooling so much simpler.
It seems some have used a 22mm deep socket, machined 2 flats on it. Then used a crow foot adaptor to tighten and torque.
Koni recommends a tightening torque of 80Nm for the 14mm x 1,5 pitch thread.
VW recomments 60Nm for their nut which has the same size thread.
I am thinking using VW self locking nut and tighten to 70Nm (split the difference)
Any thoughts?
