It is priced/sized against the golf.
The sports variant will cost over 60k here if and when it is delivered.

Hmmm really makes me think if i want to do the R32 engine, trans, drivetrain upgrade to my Polo...I really love the look of this car and especially the sports variant...hot....
What do you guys think?

Same size as the the Golf, but not really a competitor for the Golf. Priced to compete with the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Audi A3, BMW 1-Series, Lexus CT200h, etc.
Also, the A-Class is in a completely different segment to the the Polo. In fact, Mercedes doesn't build a Polo competitor.
Apart from the discontinued Alfa 147 GTA and the current BMW 1-Series M, nothing in this segment really excites me. For hatchbacks, I prefer mainstream brands (like Ford, Mazda, Renault, VW, etc).
Why buy a humdrum Audi A3, BMW 120i or Mercedes A170/B180 when you can get a VW Golf GTI for the same money?
Or an Audi A3 2.0 TFSI when you can get a VW Golf R (or the previous R32) instead?

"Upper premium small-medium vehicle" if you will.
It may not be as expensive as you think.
The new BMW 125i is around 45k+ORC and gets you a 160kw 2L turbo. 0-100 in 6.4 secs (that significantly faster than a Golf GTI). At full strength (328i) this engine pumps out 180kw.
I can't imagine that Mercedes Benz will price it much higher.
Agreed, I Read what the CEO said "The A stands for attack"
He is well aware Daimler Mercedes is being trumped by the Audi/Volkswagen duopoly...the only way to destroy the brand is by pricing between both the Audi A3 and the Golf in order to steal clientel.
Good i want to see aggressive pricing...perhaps there will be better build slots compared to the Pogo....

If its cheap here, don't expect much in it. They are currently weighing up the feasibility of the basement model g-class being brought here which is the military model. Because people here have been brainwashed into thinking German taxis are worth upwards of $65,000 the price of the basic (no abs, aircon, electric windows, cd player etc) g-class will still potentially be pushing upwards of $80,000. Expect it to lob here with a starting price similar to the Audi A1, not polo.

I do recommend that people look at the 125i equipment. Seems similar to a Golf GTI.

I would expect (judging by the 3 series vs C Class) that the A class should be well specced.
