Post Claimed Fuel Consumption on GTI

Does anyone ever get the claimed 6.1L / 100km consumption on the GTI? I'm averaging in the 8's!

If it's anything like this lady in the US - I think she's on to something!!!!

It's quite different. When you buy a Hybrid, fuel consumption matters. When you buy a performance vehicle, nobody actually really cares if it averages 2 litres more.

lol, I wouldn't worry about it. That's still pretty good consumption. When I used to drive my Polo TDI DSG - I would only get around 9L/100km in city and about 5.5-6L/100km on highway.

Claimed fuel consumption figures (ADR81) should only be used to compare similar cars.

If you look at the Polo GTI the Urban Figure is 7.7L/100km.

But yours was the dud, wasn't it? It SHOULD have been doing much better than that (my older 1.9 TDi Polo does FAR better)

I got a real 6.1L on my Golf GTI after a highway run to the Gold Coast on a 31 degree day and the A/C running - which is bang on the extra urban cycle in the brochue.

How much was due to the APR remap I don't know but they say it makes a difference......

While I don't have my GTI yet, I've test driven three different ones and their consumption has always been in the low to mid 7's (7.1-7.7). I thought that was pretty good considering they're usually driven fairly rough being demos and all.

When buying a car it's best to just go by the urban figure more than anything.

    Correct!
The published manufacturer/government fuel consumption figures is a tool that allows one to compare vehicles on a level playing field.

They are not designed to predict (seriously, how is it supposed to do that?) what one particular driver will achieve for their particular journey.

My Aurion ZR6 is rated for 9.9L/100km i'm lucky if i get 16L/100km... I have once got 6.8L/100km driving down the freeway at 100km/h with no AC, fan or radio on at night time - but everyone above is right its going to vary wildly from driver to road to outside conditions.

Used to have an Aurion before the GTI and I always got around the 10 mark. You must have a heavy foot!!!!
