Could be many things. Could be an O2 sensor, throttle body error, acceratitor pedal error, excessive misfiring...hundreds of things, it covers most things excluding most gearbox issues which has a separate warning light.

If you have VCDS you can easily see which part is playing up.

You can call VW assisit (NRMA) and they can tell you the error code. Not sure if they care about mods. Does the car have any strange symptoms?

My car just went in yesterday for solid engine light, was misfiring cylinder 4.

Yesterday I noticed a rattle when I left work. Engine was cold and got to about 3000rpm and a sound like something lose occurred but then nothing, had full power once warmed up then this morning engine light is constantly on.

So I can just call vw assist and nrma will come check it out? Never used it before, whats the process?

Yes, you call them, they take down your details, and they send out NRMA to have a look.

Well that was quick. Called and he was here in 15minutes.

Got an error code, can anyone explain what it is?

P0556: Performance or range in brake booster pressure sensor circuit.

    Any relation to wheel spacers?

Well that's not too serious. Not to say its not bad but it can still be driven. Just means you will have no brake assist or esp because the computer doesn't know how much you are breaking for it to raise the pressure. Because the brake booster runs from the vacuum of the engine you probably won't notice any difference to the braking.

Still feel free to fiddle around with the sensor cable which is on the back brake booster (which is a big black disc with the brake fluid reservoir on top) try fiddling with the cable, might have just come loose...

You done a 30,000km service recently? I know they flush the brake fluid so maybe they hit something...
