    Check deadlock and horn question

Hi guys, I have a 12.5 Polo and every time I turn off the ignition it flashes "check deadlock" a few times. Is this normal and just serves as a reminder to lock the car?

Also from new the horn hasn't worked (even while driving) I live 50ks from dealer so haven't got it back to them to fix it yet. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue from new?

    Cheers
    Marc

check dead lock is normal... my car does the same.

it is to remind you to lock the steering wheel.

Hmmm I barely ever use my horn....But maybe try a heap of different positions on the steering wheel to hit it. Might be a simple case of hitting it in the wrong place.

I thought deadlock was for the doors... if you press lock on the remote once... the doors cannot be opened from the inside and hence is deadlocked... so if anyone is left inside they cannot get out.

Press it twice and its locked only from the outside.

This is a very misleading message. Following complaints, VW have changed the message from "Safe Locking" to "deadlock".

By default, when you lock the car with the central locking, the doors are locked so that it cannot be opened from the outside AND the inside. This is fine as long as you do not have people inside the car (as in children or elderly in the car that you lock when you go to pay for fuel). If you have anyone in the car and you simply lock the car with the remote central locking, they are locked in and cannot get out.

To simply lock the car from the outside, you must press the lock on the key twice. There is no clear indication that you have pressed it one more time, and if you have an alarm fitted and press it one more time to be sure, the alarm goes off.

On the horn, you might want to check to see that the horn is connected before you make it to your dealer. Also check that a fuse has not blown.

Ours has started displaying a similar message after coming back from the dealer for other warranty work. Never noticed in the 6 months of ownership. Will check tonight.

Its a stupid and very unclear message IMHO, it sounds like a failure message and not what it is. My MIL was freaking out about it and called me when she got her car, sigh. Can we code it out in VCDS?
