    Car care and daytime headlights

    Hi guys

I new baby is due for her bath . Just a quick question - what do you guys recommend for vinyl/dash protection and maintenance? Don't like Armoral stuff....

What is the difference between daytime headlight and daytime running lights (I have built in LED daytime running lights? And how to I activate the daytime headlights?

Is it possible to have the rear number plate lights on all the time like the LED daylight running lights?

And... How I get that silly auto rain sensors to work properly...annoying the cr@p out of me as its always too fast and the wipers shudder....

    Thanks in advance ...

I have never heard the expression "daytime headlight".

Daytime running lights (I believe the correct term is "daylight running lamps") are the ones that face forward and are lit when the ignition is on and the ambient light high enough for you to not need your headlights to be on (i.e. one hour after sunrise to one hour before sunset).

If the option is available, it should be able on as long as it is standard and has been enabled in your system.

On the rear numberplate lights, You would have to wire it yourself and it is then likely to cause errors with the system. There is little to be gained by having them on in daylight hours as you would not be able to see them anyway.

On the automatic wipers, you should have a "sliding button" on the top of your wiper stalk with a number of positions. This adjusts the sensitivity of the wipers.

Shudder can also indicate that the blades are not sitting at the correct angle to the windscreen surface. If it shudders on the up wipe, then this could mean the blade is pointing up. If it shudders on the down wipe, the blade is pointing down.

I do not run with my auto wipers on all the time as the sensor can get confused and turn on when there is no rain, thereby damaging the blades and screen.

If you have DRL's why do you want headlights on Other than turning them on or rewiring them ( A bit Pointless)

Why the rear number plate lights Why not the rear tailights would be more sensible And I havent found out how to have mine on all the time except to turn headlights on

If you told us which model VW you have would make things easier It tells you in the manual the the little tit on the top of the right hand stalk with the little bars in front of it adjusts the intermittent wiper speed.

They come on because of something touching the sensor area and not necessarily rain A leaf will sometimes do it or even a cloud of dust

Dont use anything on the dash just a clean rag

    Car care and daytime headlights

    Hi all
Thanks for the feedback... Am such a noob !! Lol

Sorry.. My13.5 Polo gti is the car

Just reading the book re daytime headlights and DRLs and thinking which is a better option... As the daytime headlights I think mentions rear lights coming on too...

Well... As for the number plate lights.. Was thinking as an option... But if the rear lights can be turned on all the time like DRLs... Would prefer that... I drive on country roads allot... I believe having lights on increases visibility ... Mind u having a red GTI someone needs to be colour blind not to see the car ....

I ended up switch off the wipers n just using the flick one wipe ... As it was misty kinda rain... Can the sensor be totally disabled? I much rather control the wipers myself ...and have the ability to control the intermitted wipe speed myself... - errr am sounding like a control freak here lol

Cool...thanks re vinyl care... Just a clean microfiber cloth ..cool!!

For your interior trim, Areospace 303 is your best bet. Its non silicone so leaves a matt non greasy finish and is SPF 40+ so it will protect your trim from fading and drying out and cracking.

The auto wiper is disabled by a movement of the stalk If its in that position it doesnt work Turn your headlights on manually when driving if thats what you want

What it means is driving with your headlights on and then your tails will be on as well.

What did you do in your last car

The intermittent wiper speed is as Wai and I described. Set it and forget it or just flick the lever up one click.

I regard to turning headlights on in the country rather than drl, you will get more wildlife strikes as they think the bright lights are the sun and is safe to fly hop run to them as nothing is in the way. This is from a lot of experience and experimentation with work cars.
