Tyre rotation on vw usually makes for noisy tyres aswell due to the tendancy for the rear tyres to scallop.

As many people have mentioned, capped pruce servicing is the bare bones of a service. Basically an oil change and quick checkover.

It's a chicken / egg thing. Get in early enough (5k-10k) & the tendency to scallop & get noisy doesn't happen. Leave it too long (and 15,000km is excessive IMO) and rotaion will make the noise worse / more apparent.

I wouldn't pay a dealer to do it but I'm happy to do it myself & take the opportunity to wash wheels, high pressure blast the brakes & clean the guard liners, etc.

Could someone elaborate on tyre scallop? My polo has done 20,000km... I would love to do it at home, but putting any car on 4 jacks isn't the safest thing to do.

Tyres on my Polo rotated at 12700km, no evidence of scalloping or noise.

Polos aren't too bad for it.

Visually inspect & run your hand over the inside edge of the rear tyres. If there is feathering (raised leading edge) of the tread blocks or hill & valley effect then that's scalloping.

Putting a vehicle on 4 jacks is craziness (esp VW jacks). Putting your car on 4 jackstands is very safe if done on flat, stable ground using appropriate points on the vehicle chassis.

Scalloping isn't very common on cars with skinny tyres. Anything with 17s and up, usually suffer. Once it starts, there's not a lot you can do until they wear out and you replace them with something else.

    15K Service

Just got mine done today (15k Service), was $330, as most people have said it's a bit steep for just and oil and filter change and a visual check, but they also washed, vacuumed and tire shined (That's got to be at least $20 of the juniors time), and surprisingly whoever did it did a good job, got right into the gaps on the door pillars and cleaned out the dust that accumulates.

Best off doing the tyre rotation yourself. C0cks at dealers and tyre shops will only damage your wheels. In my one and only rotation and alignment during first service that I didnt ask for or approve I ended up with 2 chips from rattle guns. Only small and nobody would notice unless they were doing a wheel clean but still... I was annoyed. About to get new tyres, I think I'll take them off myself and drive them down there in the other car.... after covering them with masking tape for a little protection.

An update if anyone is interested.

Like I said previously, was quoted 395 or whatever it was. I went to pick up my car and to my surprise it was 520 (!!!) including rotation.

Was a bit shocked but I paid anyway and just as I was walking out the door got a call from the manager and was told that since I was quoted 395 they honour it so they'd give me 120 credit to my next service.

Do one side at a time then as you arent supposed to swap them side to side as most of the tyres we use are directional.
