my wife had some warranty work done on her Craptiva at the local Suttons Holden. There is a list of about 6-8 "Recomended Services" that are automatically printed on the Job Sheet. The Service Advisor tries to upsell you these extra service items that aren't in the Holden service book but "strongly recommended to keep your car running safely & reliably". If you said yes to all of them it would add about $800 to the bill.

When we did that back in my dealership days, a couple of the manufacturers we represented got upset, and made us take it off all warranty job cards.

Which is fair enough. In a perfect world, you shouldn't have to utilise the warranty on anything, let alone be jabbed with additional stuff.

Edit: I just called VW and they said my car doesn't apply as it was purchases pre 2013. Looks like the 2 year/30,000km service is $695 instead of the capped price of $587.

    what a load of BULL****!!!
Yes I have had both my cars serviced at the capped price rate, one is an Oct 2010 build and the other Mar 2011.

The dealer is also quite happy to let me supply my own oil.

I didnt even ask for it when I went to pick them up they told me "Thats the capped price rate" so I just paid up happily.

Capped price servicing doesn't include pollen filter or brake fluid, however a standard 30k/2 year service will. So $100 extra isn't all that bad. I'm sure most dealers will meet the capped price if you ask them to, however blindly booking a car in without asking for prices is just asking for trouble.

The best one I saw at the dealership, was a lady had booked her Golf in for a service. She didn't know a whole lot about the car, and we were to do whichever service was due.

Anyway, it turned out it was a DSG R32, and was due for a 60K service. She hit the roof when she saw the bill.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but, would anyone one be able to advise me what a 25,000km should cost? (6R GTI)

I had a couple of customers like that when i first started "Do whatevers needed. This car is my baby..." and then wanting to put the baby out for adoption when they saw the bill. I quickly learnt it was less heartache to at least suggest a maximum fee that they might be looking at & a promise to ring them if it was going to be greater.

It was much easier to deal with people that wanted to know exactly what was being done & how much it would cost.

Taking my car in tomorrow for 2 year/30,000 and they said 395.

Call your dealership up and confirm with them before booking.

Just an update, got them to match cap price. Basically saved $100, but still pretty exi.

Just wondering, do they do tyre rotation? I noticed in my 12 month service there was no tyre rotation which is strange. Honda used to do tyre rotation every 6 months, which increases the life of the tyres. Bridgestone charges $40 to get this done, i wonder if VW will do it as part of the 24 month service.

At most VW group dealers, only if you pay extra. Most of them check the brakes without removing the wheels.

Agree, tyre rotation usually extends the life of the tyres. Like this:

With the capped price servicing, they'll do what the service schedule says & anything else will cost more.
